SUMMARY:Rendezvous 2026
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, July 17 to Sunday July 19\, 2026\nFor more information an to register for the 2026 Rendezvous\, see the RMCC Annual Rendezvous flyer for 2026. \nThis is our annual event moved up to July instead of our usual August dates. \nRadium Campground Group Site B is reserved from July 17 to July 19.  Group Site A is reserved from July 17 to July 20 for those folks who want to leave on Monday.  For those that haven’t attended this event before\, our Club Rendezvous is a fun filled weekend near the head waters of the Colorado River with wonderful day paddling trips and many social activities that provide great opportunities to meet and bond with fellow club members.  For many\, this is a real season highlight. \n\n \n\nWe hope to be on the water Friday through Monday — water\, weather and boaters willing.  A revised flyer will be available soon with more details. \n\nNote: this is a dry camp so there is NO WATER and NO ELECTRIC hookups at camp sites.  Make sure to bring adequate water for your needs and have all your devices charged up\, although a solar powered camper van can provide a charge up if needed.\n\nIt is way too early to make any predictions about the expected flow during Rendezvous.  As always\, we’ll hope for reasonable water levels for fun and safe paddling for all abilities this year. Check the Colorado flows at Kremmling station for changes as you consider boating at Rendezvous. Class 1\, 2\,3 runs are expected.  Bring a helmet. \nRegistration is not required\, but it makes life much easier for the organizers!  \nThis will be an ACA waiver event.  Again\, details to come.  ACA is working out some bugs in the new system.  If you do an event waiver online\, be sure to use the event name Rendezvous 2026. \nIf you have any questions or need more information\, contact Craig or Nita Flora at craigflora2000@yahoo.com or nflora631@yahoo.com

SUMMARY:Flaming Gorge Self-Supported Paddling Trip
DESCRIPTION:Overview: This is a wonderful outing that starts in the town of Green River\, WY on the Green River.  After about 10 miles on the river\, we enter Flaming Gorge Reservoir and paddle south ending at the dam in Utah.  We did this trip in 2023 in 6 days but are planning 8 days to allow for weather and/or additional exploration.  The landscape in the north is open\, rolling hills typical of Wyoming.  As we approach Utah\, we begin the passage thru rocks and cliffs.  We will paddle sea kayaks. \nNote that there are access points on the west side of the lake where people can exit in the event that folks want a shorter trip.  These access points are about a day’s paddle apart\, beginning after 3-4 days: \n (1) Buckboard Marina; (2) Brinegar (aka Holmes) Crossing; (3) Anvil Draw; (4) Lucerne \nOrganizers: Gary Cage (gary_cage@greenspeedisp.net) and Anne Fiore (anne_fiore@yahoo.com) \nDates: Drive to Flaming Gorge on Friday\, July 10th.  Put in at Green River WY on Saturday\, July 11th.  Plan to take out at the dam by Sunday\, July 19th dam at the latest. \nDistance: 80+ miles; Rating: Class 1 and flatwater \nWind and Waves!  Flaming Gorge can get pretty windy!  Although we keep an eye on the weather and do not plan to paddle in high wind\, it is often necessary to paddle for an hour or so in moderate winds (8 mph – 12 mph) to a good campsite. \nEarly Starts\, depending on weather: In 2022 and 2023\, a strong wind came up by noon.  Given this\, we plan to be on the water by 7 AM and paddle till noon or so (when the wind starts up)\, so up to 5 hours of paddling.  Makes for a long afternoon in the sun but we beat the wind.  However\, if it appears the wind is not coming up till mid afternoon or later\, we’ll go with a later start. \nShort breaks: We tend to take only short breaks while paddling\, including short lunch breaks. \nSelf-Shuttle: We would drive to Flaming Gorge on Friday\, July 11th.  On Saturday\, July 12th\, we would meet at the dam to leave a car there then drive to the put-in at Stratton-Meyers Park in Green River.  Once all gear is unloaded\, there will be the need to drive back to Buckboard to leave a car then drive back to Green River\, leaving one car at Smith’s Grocery\, less than a mile away from the put-in.  After 2 nights\, we will take a break at Buckboard and run a shuttle back to Smith’s to get cars parked there.  They will be left at Buckboard for the remainder of the trip. \nInspections: Wyoming AIS Stickers\, Utah AIS certificate\, and WY inspection. \nACA: Since this is a Rocky Mountain Canoe Club trip\, ACA membership (annual or event) is required. \nOther Hazards: Rattlesnakes!   \nMaps:  Trails Illustrated #704 (Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. \nHuman Waste: We need to carry out our own waste. \nSafe Paddling\nTo keep our events both fun and safe for everyone\, each participant needs to have the skills and the equipment appropriate to the waters and the weather.  Each participant is the first judge of whether they have the skills and equipment necessary\, but trip coordinators have the final say. Please read the RMCC Requirements and Recommendations for ACA-Sanctioned Events

SUMMARY:Chatfield Paddlefest
DESCRIPTION:June 13\, 2026\nThe Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak Club (RMSKC) has scheduled its traditional Paddlefest Potluck at the Marina Point Group Shelter. This year will be a joint event with RMCC because RMSKC is disbanding and many of its members are joining RMCC. This is an opportunity to welcome new kayaking members and paddle on the reservoir. RMSKC let each other try out boats on Chatfield Reservoir. Bring your canoes and duckies and such to introduce your favorite boats to sea kayakers.  Marina Point group picnic area is located west of the South Boat Ramp area. Here is map: https://rockymountaincanoeclub.net/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/chatfield-map.pdf \nTrip Organizer will be Leslie Taylor (LeslieCopelandT@gmail.com).  You can reserve your spot either by emailing Leslie or registering at the RMSKC website RMSKC.org.  https://rmskc.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=4091&club_id=287975&item_id=2861040 \nPot Luck\nLeslie will grill burgers and hot dogs for you if you ask her to.  Bring meat\, salads or desserts or whatever to share.  Bring your own plates and utensils. \nACA Liability Insurance\nThis is a trip with ACA liability insurance.  If you are a current ACA member on June 13\, 2026\, you are all set. Non-ACA members who plan to get on the water need to purchase an “Event Membership” and pay the ACA’s $10 fee. \nYou can print (NEW ACA WAIVER) in advance or fill out the form your trip coordinator has at the put in. Pay $10 cash or pay by check payable to the ACA to the trip coordinator before you get on the water. Minor waivers are at: AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION\, INC \nAnother option is to use the new ACA Online event waivers.  When doing the on-line waiver use the event name: Paddlefest.  Use the date: June 13\, 2026.  You can sign an Event Waiver online using this link:  https://aca.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1370/home.  This wizard will have you create an account with the ACA without becoming a full-fledged ACA member.   This waiver will not collect the $10 fee in advance.  Take $10 cash (or a check to ACA) to the put in.  If you want to create an Event Waiver and pay the fee directly to the ACA\, use this link:  https://aca.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1371/home. Again\, you will be creating an account with the ACA just for the purpose of signing and paying for an event waiver.  Warning: No refunds if you pay the ACA for the event waiver in advance even if the event is cancelled.   You should print of download on your phone your waiver receipt and bring it to the put in. \nHelp Needed\nLeslie will need someone to help keep an eye on who shows up\, gather waivers and insurance fees and such.  We also need helpers down at the water to supervise folks trying out boats that may be unfamiliar to them. We need folks on the water to keep track of paddlers and make sure all get back to the put in. \nSafe Paddling Guidelines \nLake Chatfield has many power boats and waves can build up.  However\, there are No Wake zones.  We will stay in the No Wake zones when possible and call this a flat-water event. Depending on water level\, we usually can launch boats on the beach near Marina Point Group Shelter. The paddle plan is to head south to the No Wake Zone and toward the Gravel Pond and upstream the South Platte River until it is time to turn around.  Please do not paddle alone.  Form a pod and stay with your group. Parking can get crowded\, so come early.  Chatfield day permits are $10\, but your “Keep Colorado Wild” Pass will cover the fee.  https://cpw.state.co.us/keep-colorado-wild-pass \nIn order to maintain our liability insurance\, it’s important that all members and guests read and follow our safe paddling guidelines. Here’s a link  https://rockymountaincanoeclub.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/RMCC-Boating-Requirements-and-Recommendations-2020.pdf \n  \n

SUMMARY:San Juan River from near confluence with Navajo River / Class 1+ day paddles or Sea Kayaking
DESCRIPTION:Dates:  June 5 – June 8\, 2026\nJune 5 – Camp in the Navajo State Park CO at the Arboles Point Campground in the  small group sites #1 or #2 at 1pm or later.  Early people may want to paddle on Navajo Reservoir from the campsite to the mouth of the Piedras River and to the mouth of the San Juan River if time and weather permits.  Trip leader and a few people will be coming here from the Montezuma Creek to Sand Island trip and will likely arrive sometime in the evening. \nRiver Options with Karen \nJune 6 – Shuttle cars and put-in upstream on the San Juan River 1 mile past the Juanita Road bridge.  Paddle the 15 or so miles to our chosen takeout which is the Cottonwood access (in the State Park).  Sea kayakers may paddle an additional 6+ miles to our campground on the lake if they want.  Complete the shuttle and return to camp. \nJune 7 – Shuttle cars and put-in upstream on the Piedra River about 4 miles above the USFS 613 bridge (aka hwy 193).  Paddle about 9 miles to the early takeout which is the Day Use area within the CO Navajo Reservoir State Park.  Those willing to handle some wind and lake waves can continue 2 miles to where the lake starts and another 1.5 miles to the Windsurf Beach Campground as it is the closest lake takeout. \nJune 8 – Sea kayakers could paddle from our Arboles Point Campground out into Navajo Reservoir and explore a side canyon or 2.  Canoers may opt to repeat the Piedra or San Juan paddle (below the Ute waters and into the lake) or find a hiking trail or visit Chimney Rock.  Evacuate the campsites by noon. \n(Still deciding if we will get 3 or 4 nights at Arboles Point\, so June 9 – Evacuate the campsites by noon may not be an option.) \nNote that you will need a Colorado State Park pass or need to pay the entry fee daily.  Each camp site provides for up to 8 people\, 4 vehicles\, and 1 camping unit (like a popup); primitive\, so no water or electricity but there are toilets.  Therefore we will split the $20/night camping fee for 3 or 4 nights among the number of people that we have.   The first 2 days require Southern Ute fishing licenses ($20) or guest licenses ($5\, max 1:1).  Due to the exploratory nature of this trip and the site limits we will hold it to 10 or 12 people max. \nContact Karen A. at canoekarena@msn.com to sign up.  Note that we want at least 300 or 400cfs for this trip and it may be cancelled or shifted to lake paddling only if it is too little water for our nice boats.  Prefer canoes and sea kayaks; talk to Karen if you have something else. \nAdditional Options for Sea Kayakers\n\nGary Cage and Ann Fiore are joining Karen Amundson on her Navajo Reservoir Outing.\n\nKaren’s focus at Navajo will be putting in on the San Juan River and the Piedra River above the state park property and paddling into the Reservoir.\n\nKaren and I each have reserved a group site (site 501 and 502) at the Arboles Point Primitive Area (Friday June 5th to Tues June 9th) and we can accommodate a couple more vehicles.  (The state park limits per site are 4 vehicles\, 12 people and 2 camping units).\n\n\n\nGary and I will be limiting our outings to within the state park and will be in sea kayaks.  Here are our exploratory paddle thoughts:\n\n\n\n(1) Launch from our campsite at Arboles Point and paddle as far as we can up the San Juan and as far as we can up the Piedra then explore the area between our campsite and the main state park area;\n\n(2) Launch from the day use are on the Piedra River and paddle to our campsite and further if time permits;\n\n(3)  Launch from the Cottonwood Access point on the San Juan and paddle to our campsite and beyond if time permits;\n\n(4) drive to the main launch area and paddle south on the lake and back.\n\n\nNotes:\n\n*  Expect wind every day.\n\n*  We did paddle at Navajo about 15 years ago but haven’t been back since then\, so this is an exploratory outing.\n\n*  We are bringing our Prion sea kayaks which are durable as we are not sure what the river sections will be like (though we do expect those to be class 1 but not sure how rocky they will be).\n\n*  We’ll be able to view some parts of the river from the road but not all.\nACA Waivers\nIf you are a current ACA member as of June 5\, 2026 you are all set.  The ACA has a new system for online Event Membership/Waivers for those who are not annual members. \nWhen doing the on-line waiver use the event name:  Abole Point.  Use the date:  June 5-8\, 2026.   If you are not an ACA member and want to pay at the put in\, you can sign an Event Waiver online using this link:  https://aca.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1370/home.  This wizard will have you create an account with the ACA without becoming a full-fledged ACA member.   This waiver will not collect the $10 fee in advance.  If you want to create an Event Waiver and pay the fee directly to the ACA\, use this link:  https://aca.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1371/home. Again\, you will be creating an account with the ACA just for the purpose of signing and paying for an event waiver.  Warning: No refunds if you pay for the waiver in advance even if the event if cancelled.  Make sure you are approved for the trip before paying the ACA. \nPaper Event Membership/Waivers are still an option.  Print (NEW ACA WAIVER) in advance or use the form your trip coordinator has at the put in. Pay $10 cash or pay by check payable to the ACA to the trip coordinator before you get on the water.    Minor waivers are at: AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION\, INC \nSafe Paddling\nTo keep our events both fun and safe for everyone\, each participant needs to have the skills and the equipment appropriate to the waters and the weather.  Each participant is the first judge of whether they have the skills and equipment necessary\, but trip coordinators have the final say. Please read the RMCC Requirements and Recommendations for ACA-Sanctioned Events \n

SUMMARY:Niobrara River Memorial Day Weekend (FULL)
DESCRIPTION:THE TRADITION CONTINUES (and now it is FULL) \nThis is an easy\, kids-friendly class 1 river\, with our campground in the middle of the run.  Each day will be about 12 miles and about 4 hours. Canoes\, kayaks and inflatables are OK.  Please indicate what type boat and number of folks in the boat when you register.  A mixture of boat types means we will have to very intentional and careful to stay together.  We will be dividing ourselves into two or perhaps three paddling groups for safety.  As of March 13\, we have 24 boats registered and the trip is FULL. \nPremier scenic waterway\nThis beautiful stretch is one of America’s premier scenic heritage waterways; we’ll see many waterfalls\, beautiful hardwood forests\, and birds!  And the resident buffalo herd at the Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge (https://www.fws.gov/refuge/fort_niobrara/ ) often has calves this time of year.  We float the river on Saturday and Sunday. Most will car camp at Smith Falls State Park\, Friday – Sunday nights; return to the Front Range after breakfast on Monday (about a 6-7 hour drive back to Denver) or continue to see the sights of Nebraska or head up to South Dakota. Some folks may continue camping at Merritt Reservoir before heading home.  Keep an eye on the calendar for details. \nMemorial Day is shoulder season in the Sand Hills of Nebraska and we often have rain on parts of one or more days. \nNiobrara River Trail description here . \nDescription from Backpacker magazine:  http://www.backpacker.com/stories/paddle-nebraska-s-niobrara-river \nRiver gage at https://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?site_no=06461500.  We generally run it at between 1000 and 2000 cfs. \nFloat Plan\nSaturday\, we’ll meet at 9am (CDT) ready to shuttle from the Cornell Bridge put-in near Valentine\, down to the Smith Falls State Park campground and beach the canoes/kayaks\, and then start from there again on Sunday.   If you are not camping\, but meeting us in the morning\, see the note\, below for directions.  Bring dollars in cash to purchase wristband for each paddler. \nSaturday evening – Optional potluck dinner organized by Gay Lynn Olsen. We have reserved the large group shelter in case of rain.  Bring your own plates and cutlery plus some cash (less than $5 each) to share the cost of the shelter. \nSunday\, we’ll meet near the boat ramp (where we took out on Saturday) at 9 am (CDT) ready to shuttle from the campground to the take-out – probably at Sunny Brook Camp\, about a mile upstream of Rocky Ford.  The shuttle takes over an hour\, so non-drivers should plan to relax\, hike to Smith Falls\, and/or birdwatch at the campground while the drivers are driving. We will verify the 9 am shuttle start on Saturday night. Sunny Brook Camp charges for parked cars and launch.  Fee was $10 in years past\, but may be more these days.  Bring cash.  Snacks may be available for purchase as well. \nSunday evening: Informal group happy hour possible\, but no specific group activity planned. \nCamping\nThe campground at Smith Falls State Park doesn’t open until early May  and there is no official group site.   We used to have the campground to ourselves but in recent years\, it has gotten more crowded. The campground was reconfigured for 2021\, adding more sites and mixing the use between tents and RVs in all sites. You can make reservations now – here’s the link to the on-line camping reservations https://nebraskastateparks.reserveamerica.com \nYou can also call the park for reservations (402) 376-1306) but your best bet is on-line. The camping cost is $54.40 for three nights\, plus a day use fee.  Check-in time is 4 p.m. and by then the Ranger Station may be closed.  Your trip coordinator will be in Site 23.  Sites can accommodate a trailer/camper and a tent or two tents. \nNote: Directions to Cornell Bridge from Valentine:  Take Nebraska 12 east about 4 miles to the Ft Niobrara Wildlife refuge turn-off. Turn right towards the river and then make the first right into the access parking lot. Be there by 10 am ready to shuttle and be sure to purchase your $1 wristband at the kiosk. \nPaddle Craft\nWe will have a mixture of paddle craft\, but most are canoes.  As of March 13\, we have 24 boats.  We will divide into at least two groups. \nCoordinators\nTo join this trip contact Leslie Copeland Taylor at lesliecopelandt@gmail.com.  You will go on a wait list.  Someone who reserved a campsite may not be able to make it and be willing to sell you his or her spot. Gay Lynn is organizing the pot luck.  Craig Flora will be on-the-river head honcho.  When you contact Leslie\, please tell her: (1) Campsite (or staying in town); (2) yes\, no or maybe on joining in the pot luck (3) on-the-river safety role\, such a sweep\, first boat\, etc.  (4) what kind of craft you will be paddling. \nACA Liability Insurance Waivers\nIf you are a current ACA member\, you are all set. \nEvery paddler who is not a current ACA annual member must fill in the paperwork for an ACA Event Membership/Waiver and pay a $10 fee.  The ACA has a new system for online event membership/waivers.  Let’s give it a try. When doing the on-line event waiver use the event name:  Niobrara.   Use the date:  May 23-24\, 2026. \nFor those of you who want to pay Leslie at Smith Falls and are not an ACA member\, you can sign an Event Waiver online using this link:  https://aca.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1370/home.  This wizard will have you create an account with the ACA without becoming a full-fledged ACA member. This waiver will not collect the $10 fee in advance. \nIf you want to create an Event Waiver and pay the fee directly to the ACA\, use this link:  https://aca.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1371/home. Again\, you will be creating an account with the ACA just for the purpose of signing and paying for an event waiver.  Warning: The ACA makes no refunds if you pay in advance even if the event is cancelled. \nPaper event waivers are still an option.  You can print (NEW ACA WAIVER) in advance.  Minor waivers are at: AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION\, INC \nPay for Event Insurance/waivers to Leslie before you get on the water.  Ten dollars cash per paddler or a check payable to the ACA. \nSafe Paddling\nTo keep our events both fun and safe for everyone\, each participant needs to have the skills and the equipment appropriate to the waters and the weather.  Each participant is the first judge of whether they have the skills and equipment necessary\, but trip coordinators have the final say. SUMMARY:Colorado River: Moab Bridge Boat Launch to Potash Ramp
DESCRIPTION:May 10-13\, 2026.  Enjoy three nights of camping at Gold Bar Group A site and two days of paddling down beautiful Colorado Class 1 waters.    Trip Coordinator is Karen A assisted by Janet Mallory\, a local expert who knows hikes\, petroglyph sites and the river quite well.  Hard-sided boats preferred.  Talk with Karen if you paddle a duckie or other inflatable. \nSunday May 10 – Be at Gold Bar Group A site at noon or later.  There is a shelter and room for tents and campers. No water provided at camp.  Bring your own water. \nMonday May 11 – Drive to the Moab Bridge Boat Launch and paddle 10.4 miles to land on the big sand bar next to our Gold Bar camp.  Along the way we plan to stop near Kings Bottom camp and hike up Moonflower Canyon to a pond for lunch.  After the paddle we will shuttle to retrieve the Moab Bridge cars and move them to the Potash Ramp.  In mid to late afternoon hikers may want to explore arches and rock art.  If there is enough interest\, we will look at doing group appetizers and/or Dutch Oven dinners Monday and Tuesday nights. \nTuesday May 12 – Launch the nearby staked boats and paddle for 6.6 miles to the Potash Boat Ramp.  We plan to land near the Jug Handle and hike to some nice petroglyphs.  Then we will cross the river to find The Billboard with its goat head rock art — probably done by a cowboy settler and not by Indians.  See: https://hdl.huntington.org/digital/collection/p16003coll5/id/5116/ \nWednesday May 13 – Pack up and leave Gold Bar group camp by 11:59 a.m. as that is when our reservation ends.  If a few people want to organize a pre- or post-trip 12 mile paddle from Sandy Beach to the Moab Bridge Boat Launch\, that can be done independently.  Be aware that the 4.5 miles of straight river (in the last half) can get VERY high winds. \nHow to sign up: Contact Karen A by email to: canoekarena@msn.com.   Limit is 16 people. \nCost: Camping fees will be split and based on the number of people on the trip.  Expect to pay between $31 and $65 per person for three nights.  This is an ACA trip.  If you are not an ACA member with a current ACA Annual waiver\, you must pay a $10 event fee and sign an event waiver. \nGear:  Hard sided boats with floatation preferred.  Painters for all.  PFDs required at all times on the water.  Dress for the swim.  No cotton while paddling.  Bring rain gear just in case.  May temperatures range from 51.8 to 72.3 degrees F\, or so says the Moab tourist bureau. \nACA Waivers\nIf you a current ACA member\, you are all set. \nThe ACA has a new system for online waivers.  When doing the on-line waiver use the event name:  Moab Bridge.  Use the date: May 11-12\, 2026 \nIf you are not an ACA member and want to pay at the put in\, you can sign an Event Waiver online using this link:  https://aca.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1370/home. No refunds if you pay for the waiver in advance\, but you make life easier for your trip coordinator and club treasurer. \nSafe Paddling\nTo keep our events both fun and safe for everyone\, each participant needs to have the skills and the equipment appropriate to the waters and the weather.  Each participant is the first judge of whether they have the skills and equipment necessary\, but trip coordinators have the final say. SUMMARY:Yampa River: South Beach to Duffy Mountain
DESCRIPTION:May 4-5\, 2026    Flatwater/Class I Canoe Camping\nCanceled because of low water.\nCoordinator:  Dan Custer:  custer.dan@gmail.com\nGood Beginner Float\nThe South Beach to Duffy Mountain Stretch of the Yampa is an easy flatwater/Class I trip.  Early May is a good time to float the Yampa because the bugs should not be a problem\, we expect little competition for campsites\, and usually the water level is good.  Fingers crossed on water level this year. \nThis is an easy trip for people new to canoeing and canoe camping.  Pack a warm sleeping bag because the mornings can be frosty.  A headwind is guaranteed and it could be very strong. \nOn day one we float through private ranch land where we expect to see the eagle nests and perhaps hear baby eagles.  The second day we will paddle through BLM land and Little Yampa Canyon\, which is more scenic but with fewer eagle nests. \nCamping\nThis stretch has about a half dozen improved campsites.  Improved means a table and a fire ring.  We are likely to camp on a large island inside BLM land without improvements.  The trip could be run in one long day\, but your coordinator likes it as a two-day trip. Takeout is expected to be around 2 or 3 in the afternoon of the second day.  Much of the drive back to Denver is in day light. \nState Park Pass Required\nProvided we get approval from Yampa State Park office\, we can camp at the put-in\, South Beach\, the night before launching.  There is no fee to camp at South Beach\, but everyone will need to either have an annual state park pass for their vehicle\, or purchase day passes at headquarters at 6185 W. US Hwy. 40\, Hayden\, CO 81639.  State Park passes are also needed for parking while we are on the river.  Both the put-in and the take-out are managed by Yampa River State Park.  Both have pit toilets.  While on the river\, we will have to pack out our waste.  Wag bags are allowed\, but we will probably use a groover.  If you prefer not to camp the night before we launch\, there are motel rooms in Craig\, CO\, about 10- or 15-minutes from the put-in. \nYou will prepare your own meals. \nBoat types:\nCanoe and decked kayaks are preferred.  No pack rafts.  Inflatables are allowed if the paddler can handle a strong head wind. \nPaddler limit:\nThe trip is full at 15 paddlers. \nACA Waivers Required\nThis will be an ACA insured trip.  Current ACA members are covered\, but non-ACA folks will need to sign an event waiver and pay a $10 insurance fee either online or in cash at the put in.  The ACA has a new system for electronic waivers.  Let’s give it a try.   When doing the on-line waiver use the event name:  Yampa River.  Use the date:  May 4\, 2026. If you are not an ACA member\, you can sign an Event Waiver online using this link:  https://aca.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1370/home. The ACA makes no refunds if you pay for the waiver in advance even if the trip is cancelled.  Paper waivers are also an option. You can print (NEW ACA WAIVER) in advance or fill out the form your trip coordinator has at the put in. SUMMARY:South Platte River: Brighton to Fort Lupton - Rescheduled
DESCRIPTION:Rescheduled to Saturday  March 21 \nMat’s Update: \nDue to forecasted high winds of 20-25\, gusting to 43 mph and Sunday is 40% chance of snow with a high of 38 deg\, I am rescheduling the Brighton to Fort Lupton trip to Saturday\, March 21st forecast today is for zero% chance of precip\, high of 91 and winds of 11mph \nAnyone who signed up for the March 13th trip needs to resign up for the 21st if your schedule permits. \nSign up with trip coordinator Mat Bozek\, matbozekx@gmail.com. \nThe South Platte River from Brighton to Fort Lupton is generally a beginner friendly 9-mile trip that is lined with cottonwoods hosting numerous birds and other wildlife… a nice way to begin the paddling season. There is one mandatory portage at a dam\, and one boat chute drop early on that will also be portaged depending on conditions. Meet at Veterans Park in Brighton (junction of Hwy 7 and 85 – W of 85\, N of 7) at 8 a.m.  and be ready to begin the car shuttle no later than 9 am.  Take out is at Fort Lupton’s ballfields park.  Bring rain gear\, canoe floatation\, painters\, spare paddle and of course a PFD. Also bring a set of dry clothes in a waterproof bag and a lunch or snack (20 min break).  Don’t pack too heavy!\,  the two portages are not all that easy\, and you need to cross a boulder field and fence. \nWarning! – there are now a very lot of strainers (trees) in the river with a lot of tight turns – you need to have good boat handling skills to avoid them.  The lower the water is\, the tighter the gaps past the sweepers. \nACA Waivers required\nThis will be an ACA trip – e-mail your aca # to Mat. If not an ACA member\, bring $10 per person for the insurance fee. \nIf you are not an ACA member\, you can sign an Event Waiver online using this link:  https://aca.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1370/home.  This wizard will have you create an account with the ACA without becoming a full-fledged ACA member.  When doing the on-line waiver use the event name:  South Platte.  Use the date:  March 21\, 2026. No refunds if you pay for the waiver in advance\, but you make life easier for your trip coordinator\, paddle master and club treasurer. \nPaper waivers are also an option.  You can print (NEW ACA WAIVER) in advance or fill out the form your trip coordinator has at the put in. Pay $10 cash or pay by check payable to the ACA to the trip coordinator before you get on the water. Minor waivers are at: AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION\, INC \nPotentially the trip may be run on Sunday depending on the weather. \n

SUMMARY:Permit and Planning Potluck Party! Sat.\, January 10\, 2026 1:30- 5 pm. at the Greenway clubhouse in Broomfield. All are welcome!
DESCRIPTION:Our 2026 Permit and Planning Potluck Party will be Saturday\, January 10\, 2026\, at the Greenway clubhouse in Broomfield.  (110 Greenway Drive\, Broomfield\, CO.\, 80020).   \n We’ll start at 1:30 pm and wrap up with enough time to clean up and get out of the building by 5 pm.   This will be a party. Feel free to bring sweet or savory snacking type food to share.  The idea is to nibble while mingling and chatting about paddling. Come even without food to share. There will be plenty. Bring your reusable plates/bowls/cups/utensils\, but again\, we’ll have extras if you forget. We’ll have hot coffee and tea. \nNot yet members? You are very welcome at the party! Please join us and check out the club. \nThe Virtual “formal” meeting will start at 2:15. If we are lucky\, the un-narrated photo show that will be playing in the background of the potluck may also be enjoyed by virtual participants who join the Zoom meeting around 1:30. Please note that the virtual portion of these meetings is always a challenge\, and issues can arise. Patience is requested as we will do our best to enable virtual participation.   \nAll members will receive a Zoom link Thursday\, Jan. 8\, with a possible repeat reminder on Friday\, Jan. 9–just in case! The Zoom link will NOT be listed on this public calendar. Watch your emails\, and check your spam folders if necessary. \n     This party will be a chance to see old paddling friends and meet new ones as we chat about trips we’ve done and those we hope to do.  Aspiring co-coordinators can talk in person with potential collaborators or mentors. There will be a “formal” portion of the party with some brief presentations of trip possibilities and a lottery process discussion. We hope to have time to open the floor for brief trip pitches from any members. So\, if you have a great idea or desire\, prep for your pitch.\n\nSee you Saturday! \nBrookie (Outgoing Tripmaster) and Leslie (Incoming Tripmaster)

This is an easy\, family-friendly Class I trip.  For important information about skill level and safety and equipment\, please read and follow  RMCC Boating Requirements and Recommendations. \nScheduling Note: if we I will likely be starting a waitlistare unable to secure a campsite for Sunday night\, the trip will move a day to Mon-Tues. \nContact Bill Ashworth to sign up or with questions at washwort at gmail.com. 720-352-6456

SUMMARY:Lake Powell Houseboat and Sea Kayak Trip – September 8-14\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:*This TRIP is FULL\, but a waitlist is available. \nThe trip will be 7 days and 6 nights.  We will launch from Bullfrog and focus on the canyons beyond Escalante but short of Oak Canyon. These would include Ribbon Canyon\, Cottonwood Canyon\, Llewelyn Gulch\, Reflection Canyon (leads to Cottonwood Gulch)\, Hidden Passage Canyon\, Music Temple Bar\, and Anasazi Canyon (leads to Moepitz Canyon And Lehi Canyon if there is enough water. \nThe Navigator houseboat that has been reserved is rated to hold 10 people\, but with only 1 bathroom I want cap the trip at 7 or 8 people.  Cost is estimated to be $870 for 8 people or $995 for 7 people\, as we need to cover cleaning\, gas\, insurance\, ice\, etc. in addition to the houseboat rental. I will need to collect $700 by February 15.  And\, a payment of about $2-300 will be needed in August. I would do the final adjustment at the end of the trip once we know what we spent on gas.  \nThe cost for this 7 day houseboat trip has increased quite a bit since we did the 2023 trip\, but if you compare it to most commercial trips that average $400 per day or more\, I think it is fairly reasonable. We saved about $900 by booking the boat super early (we booked in 2024) . Booking early also allowed us to get the dates that we wanted. \n Shared dinners and other items would be similar to our past trips. Most of us could camp in Starr Springs Campground 27 miles short of Bullfrog the night before our launch. \nContact Karen A. for more information and to sign up.  canoekarena at msn.com

SUMMARY:Cancelled. Colorado River: Cisco Landing to Lower Onion Creek August 25 & 26\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:**Unfortunately\, weather and low flow lead to the need to cancel.** \nBarring any late summer t-storms\, floating the Colorado River doesn’t get much easier than this! Canoes & sea\, touring\, or recreational kayaks will likely be best in the low river flow I anticipate we’ll have in late August. \n     For those who wish to car camp\, we’ll meet Sunday evening (8/24) at Dewey Bridge Campground\, 32 miles upstream from Moab on SR128. We’ll try to snag one of the group campsites with shade shelter as we did last year when all 3 were open. The camp area has vault toilets but no water. Camping fees will be shared. For those who prefer\, there is also dispersed camping nearby & numerous hotels in Moab\, 45 minutes drive.\n\n\n     Monday morning (8/25) we’ll gather at the Dewey Bridge Campground boat launch. From there we’ll drive to Cisco Landing where we’ll launch for a 16-mile flatwater paddle thru scenic desert & remote ranchland back to Dewey Bridge.\n\n     Tuesday morning (8/26) we’ll launch from Dewey Bridge to enjoy 8-miles of Class I water thru spectacular red rock canyons to the take-out at Lower Onion Creek Campground. Likely we’ll lunch at the take-out\, pack up & start for home early afternoon.\n\n     This is an ACA sanctioned outing that requires either ACA membership or $10/person insurance fee. In addition\, all boaters must complete the 2025 Utah mussel-aware boater course available through Utah Division of Wildlife.\n\nContact trip coordinator Karla Tanner for more information or to sign up: Kat81521 at gmail dot com

SUMMARY:Trip Full\, with Wait-list. Beginner/Intermediate Day Paddling on the Taylor and Arkansas Rivers. Aug. 17-approx Aug.22
DESCRIPTION:Trip is Full\, with Wait-list. Contact Trip Coordinator. \nThis will be a joint trip of Rocky Mountain Canoe Club and Missouri Whitewater Association (MWA) members. It will consist of several  Class II day paddles on the Taylor River followed by several day paddles on the Arkansas River. Paddlers will car camp. While still in the planning stages\, with details will follow\, below is a general sense of the trip. \nThe trip would begin at Lottis  Creek Group Campground on or about the evening of August 17.  \nFor the next three days we would divide into groups according to skill levels\, preference and group size and paddle various sections of the Taylor River as appropriate. \nAfter paddling the third day we would drive over to the Arkansas to a campground\, as yet to be determined\,  and spend the next three days doing the same activity on sections of the Arkansas.  The required water releases for rafting end each year on or about August 18. so runs on the Fractions\, Brown’s Canyon and several easier Arkansas River reaches will be more approachable. \nThis will be a great opportunity for building relationships between members of the two clubs\, both on the water and in camp in the evening. Missouri boaters are always interested in paddling in Colorado and knowing people who enjoy the same level of boating. And\,  RMCC people are interested in the Ozark streams of Missouri and Arkansas which the MWA folks know well and paddle  frequently.   \nThis will be an ACA trip. Contact Chris K. if you are interested in joining. cskelly1022 at gmail.com

SUMMARY:Blue Mesa Reservoir Exploratory:  Sunday\, Aug 10th through Thursday Aug 14th
DESCRIPTION:Overview: First and foremost\, this is an exploratory trip.  The goal of this trip is to paddle at Blue Mesa Reservoir.  We are planning for 3 days of paddling. This is about a 6 hr drive from the Longmont area.\nNote that we tend to paddle steadily without lots of breaks.  Lunches are short since we often are in a race against wind and afternoon storms. \nDates: Sunday\, August 10th thru Thursday\, August 14th.    Note:  Folks can come for all or part. \nConditions: This is a flatwater outing.  Expect wind and waves!  Also\, not much shade in the campground so a sunshade or similar equipment is recommended. \nGroup Size: Since this is an exploratory outing\, I am thinking we should limit the number of participants\, but I am not sure what that should be.  And there may be a variety of craft so keeping together may be difficult but breaking into groups could help (assuming others are willing to lead).  More to come on this. \nPaddle Destination Suggestions: \n(1)    Lake Fork Canyon: This is a long canyon running southeast from the west side of the lake.  Might be a good destination if its windy.  The put-in would be the Lake Fork Marina. \n(2)    Soap Creek and West Elk Creek:  There is a boat access point on the north side of the reservoir at the Pinnacles Trailhead.  From there\, we can paddle west to explore these canyons. \n(3)    Bay of Chickens (aka “Windsurfing Area”) has good day access.  From there we can paddle across Cebolla Bay and explore the Cebolla Arm. \n(4)    Elk Creek: From there\, we can paddle east toward Iola Basin.  The lake is a bit narrower in this area. \n(5)    Steven’s Creek: There is a boat ramp here that is on the north side of Iola Basin \n(6)    Gunnison River into Blue Mesa: The Gunnison River east of Blue Mesa looked very moderate.  There is some info on Mountain Buzz about paddling it.  We could paddle into the lake itself or take out at one of the access points along the way.  If folks are interested in this\, let me know as it will take preparation. \n(7)    Silver Jack Reservoir:  This is south of Blue Mesa\, a much smaller reservoir about ½ of Union.  I don’t expect we’ll go there to paddle\, but it looks like a nice destination for another time. \n(8)    Morrow Point Reservoir: I have heard this is a cool place to paddle and camp.  But boating access to Morrow Point Reservoir is limited\, and the easiest way to get to the reservoir is by carrying your boat and gear down the 232 steps of the Pine Creek Trail. The trail follows the old railroad bed along the reservoir and offers fishing and camping. There are boat-in campsites along the north and south shores. You can get a Backcountry Permit for camping at the Pine Creek Trailhead.  This is here for reference only\, not part of this outing. \n(9)    Black Canyon of the Gunnison:  Opportunity exists for hiking but will not be part of the trip as originally planned since the drives to the trailheads are longer that originally estimated (hikes on the south side of Black Canyon do not descend into the canyon and it is a 40 mile drive to these trailheads;  hikes on the north side do descend into the canyon but it is a 50+ mile drive to the north side trailheads).  This is here for reference only\, not part of this outing. \nReservations for Camping: I expect we would want/need to get reservations.  Reservations open on Mar 17th.  I will monitor.  Everyone will be responsible for their own reservations. \nCamping: On our exploratory outing on Sunday\, March 9th\, we did a drive through of Lake Fork Campground which is essentially a paved parking lot.  While it is convenient to Lake Fork Arm\, Soap Creek and West Elk Creek it does not have much appeal as a campground for tenting\, so we have nixed this idea. \nWe drove and checked out the other campgrounds on the north side of the lake and here is what we found: \nEast Elk Creek: A really lovely group campground (at $120 / night) but it is closed for nesting eagles till August 15th (and we did see eagles and a nest on our scout) so this is not an option.  Also\, although it sits on a pond\, there is no direct water access to the reservoir. \nElk Creek: A large camping area near the visitor center.  Loop B (sites 56 – 97) look like they are closest to the water.  Walk-in sites 75 & 76 are the best and look to be about 150 yards from the water so hand launches from there are possible but bring wheels.  Sites 75\, 77\, 78\, 73 looked good too. \nIn general\, the drive-in sites along Loop B seems kind of small for a tent. \nLoop A sites that might work for tents are 12\, 33\, 35\, 37\, 42. \nLoop D did not look tent friendly at all. \nSteven’s Creek: Another camping area\, close to the east end of the reservoir on the north side.  There was a boat ramp in that area.  It appears that these sites are first come / first serve and pay-by-cell-phone enabled.  Highway noise would be a problem at any of the sites.  Sites 20\, 22\, 27\, 32\, 34 are good for tents. \nMeals: All meals will be on your own though a potluck happy hour would be nice. \nLaunching and Inspection Stations: Hand-launched and hand-powered vessels that meet Clean\, Drain\, Dry requirements do not need to be inspected and these watercraft are not required to launch at a boat ramp\, but trailers cannot enter the water.  Note that if you bring your boat on a trailer\, it will need to be inspected. \nOnline Info:  https://www.nps.gov/cure/planyourvisit/index.htm \nUS 50 Road Construction: Construction is complete! \n***FYI: This is an ACA- sanctioned trip and ACA membership OR $10 event fee required. RMCC and ACA waivers required.       Contact Anne to sign up. anne_fiore at yahoo.com

SUMMARY:Rendezvous on the Colorado at Radium Aug. 1-4\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:We will have have the 2025 Rendezvous at the Radium Campground (Aug 1-4) on the Upper Colorado River. We have Radium’s two group campsites and some sharable individual campsites available for Friday\, Saturday and Sunday nights and hope to be on the water Friday through Monday — water\, weather\, and boaters willing. See the RMCC Annual Rendezvous flyer\, 2025 or on the calendar for LOTS of detail\, including proposed runs\, camping\, costs/waivers\, volunteer opportunities\, special events (if I get volunteers)\, and more. \nAlthough currently the Colorado River flow is less than 900 cfs\, well less than the historical average of 3300 cfs\, it’s way too early to make any predictions about the expected flow during Rendezvous.  As always\, we’ll hope for reasonable water levels for fun and safe paddling for all abilities this year. Check the Colorado flows at Kremmling station for changes as you consider boating at Rendezvous. \nRegistration is not required\, but it makes life much easier for the organizers! To register AND sign up for volunteer positions\, go on-line to  2025 Rendezvous Registration. \nAnd\, if you have not signed an ANNUAL ACA waiver for 2025\, don’t forget to sign an ACA waiver for the event! \nAfter you read the flier\, if you have any questions or need more information\, contact Craig or Nita Flora at craigflora2000@yahoo.com or nflora631@yahoo.com

SUMMARY:Flaming Gorge North End. Car Camping and Day paddles...Wed July 9th thru Tuesday July 15
DESCRIPTION:Overview: This is a flat-water outing.  The plan is to car camp and do day paddles in the area of the confluence of the Black’s Fork Arm and the Green River Arm.  This area is on the north end of the reservoir\, about 5 miles above the Buckboard Marina (which is accessed from the west side of the reservoir).  We would do 1 day up the Green River Arm\, 1 day up the Blacks Fork Arm\, and 1 day south toward Buckboard.  There are a couple of outings that would require driving to different access: The inlet that is west of Buckboard and ‘bird island’ that is accessed from the Brinegar/Holmes Crossing access (about 5 miles south of Buckboard) and is a half-day or so paddle.  \nCamping:  We have in mind a couple of possibilities for car camping: \n(1)   Remote camping at the end of a gravel road that would put us just south of the confluence.  The road (Road 11) is fairly good\, though there is a steep section at the end.  I have driven it in my Subaru Forester and trucks pull trailers down there so it’s not too bad.    The upside of this is that we can easily access WY 530 and drive to another access point on the west side.  The downside is that there is no outhouse\, so we would each have to carry out our own human waste. \n(2)   Camp at Lost Dog access.  It is 13 miles down a gravel road but it does have an outhouse.  The downside is that it’s a long 13 miles so it’s not conducive to driving to another access for a day outing.  The other downside is that it might be busy on a weekend. \nBoat Permit: Wyoming Boat Inspection and Wyo AIS Sticker.  See https://wgfd.wyo.gov/fishing-boating/aquatic-invasive-species-prevention for further information.  \nNote that our plan is to only paddle in Wyoming but Utah (south end of the reservoir) has its own AIS requirements.  See https://stdofthesea.utah.gov/ais/non-motorized/.  \nFees:  All of the Flaming Gorge access points\, marinas\, etc.  have a fee which is covered by the National Parks Senior Pass.   \n Shuttles: No shuttles needed. \n Drinking Water: Bring your own drinking water.  No water is available at either site though we have pumped water from the reservoir on our various self-supported trips. \nFood: All food is on your own\, but a pot-luck happy hour would be nice. \nWind and Start Time: In the past few years\, on self-supported trips\, a strong wind came up early (like by 10 – noon)\, so we started getting up at 5:30\, no cook breakfasts and cold-brews only and were done by noon.  Wind may still be an issue even though our plan is to do out-n-back trips.  Hard to say what it will be like this summer.  \nSun: It can be hot in the afternoon and there is not much shade so a sunshade or Noah’s Tarp would be handy \nDrive Time: It generally takes us 6+ hours to get to camp from Longmont. \nContact Anne to sign up. anne_fiore at yahoo.com

SUMMARY:Cancelled. Jefferson River Canoe Trail- Montana Twin Bridges to Missouri River Headwaters State Park. Class I. June 27-30.
DESCRIPTION:Trip cancelled. \n     The Jefferson River Canoe Trail encompasses the entire 80-mile length of the Jefferson River\, along with fishing access sites\, campsites\, hiking trails\, conservation easements\, state lands and state parks\, and adjacent BLM and Forest Service lands. Public lands along the river are designated as leave-no-trace camping.  The Jefferson River Canoe Trail retraces by water an essential segment of the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail. The Jefferson River is entirely Class I water\, suitable for beginning paddlers\, except during runoff.  I plan to start floating from Twin Bridges and take out near the Missouri River Headwaters State Park. The river may be a good place for wildlife viewing.  The Jefferson River Canoe Trail presently includes nine marked designated camping areas\, including four sites on BLM land\, two on state lands\, and three properties acquired for the public by the Jefferson River. It could take three or four days depending on how fast the group paddles. Much of the river should be braided and slow moving\, depending on water flows. \n Hazards include diversion dams\, possible logjams and narrow channels. \nThis is an ACA trip. ACA membership (and signed waiver) or $10 ACA Event fee (and signed waiver) required. \nFlow Gauge: Twin Bridges \nShuttle: Fee Required \n–Pack in water required.  Use a portable toilet to pack out human waste \n  Pack it in\, pack it out \n To wash dishes\, please carry water 200 feet away from the river and use small amounts of biodegradable soap. Scatter strained dishwater \nMontana: Boat Inspection/paperwork Required-https//fwp.mt.gov/conservation/aquatic-invasive-species/rules \nWyoming: AIS Stickers/decal- https://wgfapps.wyo.gov \nContact Trip Coordinator Louise Richards for more information and to sign up: louisemrichards1199 at gmail.com \n

SUMMARY:Gunnison R.\, Delta to Whitewater. June 21-23\, 2025. 3 days\, 42 miles. Class II.  ACA trip
DESCRIPTION: NO SIGNUPs before  June 10th \nThis is an ACA trip – if you are an ACA member\, e-mail me your membership number – if you have an Online Waiver\, you can send me a copy of that.  Except for people with a valid online waiver\, you will need to fill out an ACA waiver for the trip (BRING YOUR # with you – you need it for the waiver form).  If you are not an ACA member\, then you need to pay the $10 per person insurance fee.  Since this is an ACA trip\, and since it is Class II – you must have a helmet for the CII rapids (NO Bike Helmets).  \nThere are 2 Class II rapids.  I don’t recall how low I have ever run the Gunny\, but I recall one summer trip that we had to walk the boats thru the rock garden instead of doing the normal run for the first CII – we will scout the first rapid.  The second CII can be avoided – it is at Dominguez canyon – a left channel (with a killer undercut rock) will avoid the CII\, which is right of the island.  There is also a rock dam to negotiate about 6 miles down river – it is not a problem\, but must be run at far left and be prepared for swirly water there.  This run is easier in higher water than low. \nNo dogs or little kids – guests may be allowed\, if its cleared with me first. Day 1 is 28 miles\, so no slow boats  \nYou need to provide your own river toilet.  Temps should be fairly mild – expect highs in the 70s and lows about 50 at a guess.  Plan for two nights camping. And  plan on a very early Monday\, to get down river  hopefully before the winds kick up. \nI will be working on the shuttle arrangements later – hopefully we will be able to park vehicles at the Lazy S motel in Whitewater. . – still a work in process right now. \nSign up with trip coordinator. mat bozek.  matbozekx at gmail.com    No sign ups before  June 10\, 2025! \n***CAUTION –  If I can obtain a permit for Loma to Westwater for the 24th\, this trip will not end at Whitewater – This will add 13 more miles and one more night to the trip so it would be 3 nights/4 days and there will be one mandatory portage around the Redlands Dam – 3/10 mile portage\, and there is one more Class II rock garden rapid upstream from the dam – this addition is dependent on having sufficient water and on obtaining the permit for camping in Ruby/Horsethief.
