SUMMARY:Gunnison River (this trip is full)
DESCRIPTION:(THIS TRIP IS FULL AND IS NOT ACCEPTING NEW PARTICIPANTS) \nThis stretch of the Gunnison River is mostly easy\, moving water\, but it has 3 Class II rapids\, so bring your helmets.  We usually do a layover camp at the mouth of Dominguez Canyon\, but the lower water levels in late summer may adjust our camping locations.  In any case\, we will hike up the scenic red-walled Dominguez Canyon to see the wonderful 40′ waterfall and carved igneous rocks\, and perhaps go further.  You will likely see colorful lizards\, and occasionally there are bighorn sheep up on the cliffs. SUMMARY:Colorado River near Moab
DESCRIPTION:Two class I (no waves without wind) day trips on the Colorado river. With the river flowing high we could do the 17 miles from Cisco landing to Dewey bridge in one day. This beautiful stretch is on the high colorado plateau with great views of the La Sal mtns. We will try to camp near Dewey bridge and do “postcard alley” into the Colorado riverway (near the Moab daily on Sunday (a shorter day). We could camp at Cisco Landing Friday night. And hopefully some of us can be early enough to shuttle some cars so we could leave early on Sat. Both camps are waterless\, with outhouses available. Camps at Dewey campground are difficult to get and $15 (can be shared). BLM land or my house are alternate possibilities.\nThis will be an ACA trip send me your ACA# or I will collect 5$ with an ACA waiver. If interested contact Janet Mallory 720-236-5308 or janetrpm@gmail.com .

SUMMARY:San Rafael River: north of I-70 or Dolores\, Utah
DESCRIPTION:(THIS TRIP IS FULL AND A WAITING LIST HAS BEEN STARTED.) \nThe San Rafael Class II (due to possible strainers/obstacles and remoteness) section of just 18 miles will be spread across 3 days to maximize hiking to petroglyphs\, ruins\, and petrified logs; also to finish in time to return to the Front Range on Sunday. Note that this river only runs once 5 reservoirs fill up and that is hard to predict\, but watch  http://www.ewcd.org/reservoirs/teacup-diagram/ ; I figure a 30% chance for this date/year. \nLow/high/no water backup plan will be to do the Dolores River from Gateway to Dewey Bridge – 30 miles with several class III’s\, or 21  with only 2 class II’s if we put in below the State Line Rapid which is a mile long portage.  We’d arrange to have 1 car there to help with the big portage.  There are 3 nice hikes (Grand Canyon caliber per the guide) in this unpopulated canyon with 80% chance of flow for this date/year.  Limit is 5 drivers due to a 5+ hour shuttle with Carol/Werner offering to bring 2 cars and do the after-shuttle a day after the trip. To get on the waiting list for this trip contact Karen Amundson at canoekarena@msn.com. \n

SUMMARY:White River: Rangely to Enron Gas Wells
DESCRIPTION:This is a three day\, two night trip.  Plan on two nights camping on the river –  but with a strong  group\, we may opt to do the trip in two days/one night depending on flow – that  would allow a full day for the long drive back – it is 285 miles from Denver to Rangely and another 30 or more miles to and from the takeout.  Shuttle takes a good 2 to 3 hours round trip.  Put in at Trujillo Wash and take out at Enron Gas Wells. \nRiver Rating is Class I/II. There is one CII rapid in Cowboy Canyon that can “generally” be avoided.  Intermediate paddling skill is required – this is NOT a beginner level trip. You must be able to maneuver your canoe around many strainers and through tight corners with very strong eddy lines\, and be able to eddy out quickly.           \nBLM’s Floating the White River brochure describes this portion of the River “for 100 miles between Rangely\, Colorado\, and the river’s confluence with the Green River\, the White River cuts a rugged\, scenic trough into the high desert plains of the Uintah Basin. This is a place to paddle\, watch wildlife\, and occasionally leave the river for an unforgettable hike.” To download this brochure for further details and a map of the river go to: http://www.blm.gov/style/medialib/blm/ut/vernal_fo/recreation.Par.93682.File.dat/white%20river%20for%20web.pdf \nTo sign up for this trip email Mat Bozek (matbozekx@gmail.com) or leave a voice mail at (303) 460-0248 \n

SUMMARY:Dolores River - Slick Rock to Bedrock or Pagosa Springs river trips
DESCRIPTION:The Dolores River trip includes beautiful canyons with a few nice side hikes. It is 50 miles with 3 class III rapids the last day.  This trip is currently scheduled for May 21-23 but May weather can bring big winds\, cold\, and hail. The Bureau of Reclamation plans to release McPhee Reservoir water from May 17 until June 11 this year\, peaking midway at 2000cfs – – assuming the snowpack maintains its current impressive levels. The last release was in 2011\, so this is Exciting! \nIf water levels don’t allow us to run the Dolores River\, the backup plan is for the following individual day trips in the  Pagosa Springs allowing paddlers to choose from a variety of runs. \nMay 21 — Harder run: San Juan from Pagosa to south 13.4 miles; class III- that needs 800-1500cfs; backup is Racecourse (Pilar\, NM)\, Chama day run\, or Piedra. Easier run: Piedra River from near hwy 160 to Navajo Reservoir; class I; unlikely to need a backup. \nMay 22 — Harder run: Conejos River Pinnacle Gorge (below Platoro Reservoir) 6.4 miles; class III; needs 300 to 1000cfs (?); backup as above. Easier run: Conejos River below Pinnacle Gorge; class II; needs 300 to 1000cfs (?); possible barbed wire; backup is lower Animas or San Juan below the Navajo Reservoir dam. \nMay 23 — Harder run: Rio Grande near Creede 6.5 miles; class III; want >500cfs; backup not defined. Easier run: Rio Grande from Wagon Wheel Gap to South Fork for up to 15 miles; class II; want 600-2000cfs; backup is the Arkansas from Florence to Pueblo Reservoir. \nContact Karen Amundson at canoekarena@msn.com to for more information or to register for this trip.   \n   \n  \n

SUMMARY:Escalante River Packrafting Trip
DESCRIPTION:This is a spectacular desert river through the heart of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and Glen Canyon Recreational area. It is rated by some as the “best packraft trip in North America”. There are spectacular side hikes to places like the “Golden Cathedral” in Neon Canyon and the Ringtail slot canyon. Steven’s Arch and Coyote Gulch are at the lower end\, with 1\,000 ft. vertical cliffs. This river’s beauty is on a scale of the Grand Canyon or Yampa River but much more intimate\, and MUCH less crowded. This is a rigorous 8 day/7 night trip that includes backpacking 3 miles with a packraft to the river\, a 40 mile float trip with side hikes\, and a 5 mile hike out. \nRiver rating: Class II due to possible strainers and at least one mandatory portage. \nFor further information or to sign up\, contact Lynn Carpenter at lynnecarpenter@gmail.com

SUMMARY:RMCC Meyers Pool Class - cancelled
DESCRIPTION:Cancelled due to lack of sign-ups \nRMCC  is organizing a canoeing class this spring on April 3 (and perhaps April 17) during the Meyers Pool sessions.  The classes will be taught by RMCC and Poudre Paddler canoeing instructors and will focus on basic strokes and technique in 2 hours sessions\, starting at 10 AM. We will also take advantage of the warm water to practice basic self-rescue skills.  It will be a great place for beginners and kids to get started. For intermediate and advanced paddlers\, it’s a chance to brush up on your skills. \nDepending on the number of students\, we will have one or two classes. If the class is small\, we’ll have tandem and solo at the same time on the 3rd. If the turnout is large (as it was last year)\, we’ll have tandem and solo on different days. Instruction will be: \n\nTandem canoeing – April 3\nSolo canoeing – April 17\n\nThe classes will be free\, although you will need to pay the $9.50 pool entrance fee and\, if you’re not an ACA member\, the $5.00 single-event ACA membership fee.  You must provide your own boat\, paddle\, and PFD. \nRegistration is required so we know how many people are coming. Contact Bill Ashworth (washwort@gmail.com)   if you’re planning to take advantage of this early season opportunity!
