SUMMARY:RMCC 2015 Wyoming Rivers trip
DESCRIPTION:My wife and I discovered these rivers about 8 years ago with a CA canoeing club and have been coming back to paddle these beautiful\, empty rivers almost every year since. The rivers will include the Greys\, Hoback\, Gros Ventre\, scenic Snake\, and one TBD.  This will be a car-camping trip in the Jackson Hole region and thus unloaded boats.  We’ll be on the water around 4 hours each day in Class I-II rapids.  The group will be limited to 12 paddlers and filled up quickly when we did it in 2013.  Here’s a link to a RMCC 2015 Wyoming summary and I’ll publish a full itinerary in May with details about the rivers\, campgrounds\, and the schedule. All participants must be comfortable paddling twisty mountain rivers with challenging Class II rapids in the type of boat they’ll be bringing or sharing.  Examples of comparable water in CO are the Filter Plant run on the Poudre and Yarmony Bridge to State Bridge on the Colorado.

SUMMARY:Dolores River\, CO - San Miguel to Gateway (cancelled: San Rafael River\, UT - Little Grand Canyon)
DESCRIPTION:  \nBecause we don’t expect to see runable flows in the San Rafael River\, we will be running the Dolores River from the San Miguel confluence to Gateway. \nThis seldom-run section of river is Class II (due to possible strainers/obstacles and remoteness). This section of just 18 miles will be spread across 3 days to maximize hiking to petroglyphs\, ruins\, and petrified logs; also to finish in time to return to the Front Range on Monday (Memorial Day).  Note that this river only runs once 3 reservoirs fill up and that is hard to predict. \nHere’s a page from the Emery Water Conservancy District website that describes how full the reservoirs are\, (http://www.ewcd.org/reservoirs/teacup-diagram/) \nLow/high/no water backup plan will be to do the Dolores River from the confluence with the San Miguel to Gateway; this section has 2 hikes to nice arches\, 1 scoutable class III rapid\, and a II+ that fills boats with water and flips them.  Limit 12 paddlers due to smallish camping areas on the San Rafael.  Prefer signups – even if they are tentative – to be done by April 10. \nContact Karen for further information or to sign up!  This is an ACA-sanctioned event requiring either ACA membership or a single-event ACA membership fee of $5 per person.

DESCRIPTION:This will be an ACA-sanctioned outing/event which requires EITHER ACA membership OR a $5/person insurance fee. 7th annual Niobrara trip. Easy\, kids-friendly class 1 river\, with campground in the middle of the run. We’ll meet at noon on Saturday at the Cornell Bridge (see note) put-in near Valentine\, run on Saturday and Sunday. Car camping at Smith Falls State Park\, May 24-25\, Return to the Front Range after breakfast on Monday the 26th (about a 7 hour drive). Trip flyer Niobrara River flyer 2015 \nNiobrara River Trail description. \nThis beautiful stretch is one of America’s premier scenic heritage waterways; we’ll see many waterfalls and beautiful hardwood forests.  And the resident buffalo herd at the Niobrara Preserve often has calves this time of year. The campground doesn’t open until just before Memorial Day so advanced reservations may be difficult and aren’t really necessary.  Smith Falls State Park (402) 376-1306)\, $5/person/night. SUMMARY:CANCELLED due to High Water: South Platte River - Brighton to Ft. Lupton
DESCRIPTION:Meet at 8:30 am at Veterans Park in Brighton.  That’s just west of hwy 85 and east of the river.  Set up your boats and be ready to shuttle at 9 am. \nDescription: 9 miles of Class I to Class I+ river\, generally with good current.  Expect headwinds in the afternoon. \nPotential Hazards: \n\nHypothermia from cold water.  Bring a complete change of clothes in a dry bag\nStrainers – cottonwood trees that have fallen from the bank may block the entire channel and can pin boaters underwater (drowning hazard)\nOther obstacles like bridge abutments and rocks to avoid in order to keep from capsizing.\n\nThis is generally considered a ‘beginner’ level trip and it usually is\, but high water can change that. \nMat won’t take too many beginners and is looking for a reasonable mix of experienced and beginner paddlers. The exact number isn’t set but will depend on who signs up. \nThe river has 2 main ‘obstacles’ to be passed. \n\nThe first one is a rock dam with a boat chute that has tipped over paddlers.  It’s generally run on center right\, however it may be advisable to portage this.\nThe second is a concrete dam roughly halfway down.  This is a required portage\, and usually the lunch stop.\n\nThis is an ACA-sanctioned event requiring either an ACA membership or a single-event ACA membership fee  of $5 per person\, due at the put-in. Adherence to ACA trip rules is required. \nThis link should take you to a write-up from the Boulder Outdoor Center for this trip: \n\n\n\nhttp://boc123.com/kayak/riverguide/South_Platte_Brighton_Cit.cfm\n\n\n\nContact Mat for further information or to sign up!  NOTE: Mat will be unavailable during the month of April.  E-mail will not work after April 3rd.  Contact Mat by phone after May 1st!

SUMMARY:2015 Annual Permit Party
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Breckenridge to help decide where we’re going to paddle in 2015! \nWe’ve set the date for January 17th – that’s the Saturday of the Martin Luther King holiday weekend – at the Breckenridge home of one of our members. Two of our members have graciously offered to open their (Breckenridge/Frisco) homes on a first-come basis to folks who want to make the trip and will need a place to stay on the night of January 17th. \nPlease reply to cmdeck@bresnan.net or washwort@comcast.net to let us know if you’re planning to come and need a place to stay. Please reply soon so that we can plan ahead.  We’ll send location and homestay details to everyone who RSVPs\, so let us hear from you!  \n \nFor those of you who want to participate but can’t make the trip\, we’re also exploring options for broadcasting the ‘permit auction’ remotely\, so that you can weigh in on Club trips and schedules. Please also let us know if you want to participate remotely. \nWe look forward to hearing from you soon! \nAlternate Snow Date – In the event that winter storms prevent us from making the trip into the mountains on Jan 17th. We’ll find an alternate location in the Denver/Boulder area where we can meet on January 24th.  We’ll make that call a day or so ahead of the 17th. \n  \n
