SUMMARY:White River – Rangely CO. April 23\, 2022 (Sat.) - April 25\, 2022 (Mon.) CANCELLED -- LOW WATER
DESCRIPTION:White River from Trujillo Wash to the Enron Gas Wells take out – 65 miles\, Class II \nThis is a three day\, two night trip . Plan on two nights camping on the river – that allows a full day for the long drive bacon Mon. to avoid weekend traffic – it is 285 miles from Denver to Rangely and another 30 or more miles to and from the takeout. Shuttle takes a good 2 to 3 hours round trip. Put in at Trujillo Wash and take out at Enron Gas Wells. \nThis is an ACA trip – River Rating is Class I/II (helmet required). There is one Class II rapid in Cowboy Canyon that can “generally” be avoided. Intermediate paddling skill is required – this is NOT a beginner level trip. You must be able to maneuver your canoe around many strainers and through tight corners with very strong eddy lines\, and be able to eddy out quickly. \nBLM’s Floating the White River brochure describes this portion of the River “for 100 miles between Rangely\, Colorado\, and the river’s confluence with the Green River\, the White River cuts a rugged\, scenic trough into the high desert plains of the Uintah Basin. This is a place to paddle\, watch wildlife\, and occasionally leave the river for an unforgettable hike.” \nThis is an ACA trip. Non ACA members will need to pay $10 to cover insurance. No dogs\, no little kids\, no “guests”.  If you are planning on paddling with a non-RMCC member\, clear it with me first. \nNo sign ups before March 1st \nTrip Coordinator: Mat Bozek\, matbozekx@gmail.com to register for this trip or ask questions.

SUMMARY:Revised: 17th Almost Annual Joint Club Paddle - South Platte River\, Evans to Kersey or Kuner
DESCRIPTION:If you are considering joining us\, PLEASE NOTE:  March 26th weather is looking good\, but this is no longer a family-friendly\, first-timer’s run — you have to be able to control your boat to avoid multiple gravel bars and strainers and to portage two dangerous dams.  Please see the description in the revised flier — especially the description of dam portages — and contact Kathryn if you want to discuss it. \nThe Rocky Mountain Canoe Club\, Poudre Paddlers\, Flatwater Frogs\, Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak Club\, High Country River Rafters\, and Colorado Whitewater will be back on the South Platte River to celebrate the 2022 padding season.  Our traditional put-in at Riverside Park in Evans\, Colorado reopened following restoration of severe damage from the September 2013 floods and our main takeout at Kersey has a new bridge. \nJoin us on March 26 (weather permitting) on a Class I+ paddle from Evans to Kersey Bridge or Kuner.  \nRegistration is not required (but will get you an email if we have to punt to our April 2 “snow date”) and non-members are welcome to join.  Because we have other clubs involved\, this is only a partial (hybrid) ACA-sanctioned trip (no ACA membership/$10 event fee required)\, but all participants must sign liability waivers. \nFor more detail\, see the Revised Joint Club Paddle Flier and then\, if desired\, contact Kathryn Mutz

SUMMARY:South Platte River: Brighton to Fort Lupton. March 19th\, 2022 (Sat.) 9:00 am - to 2:00pm
DESCRIPTION:The South Platte River from Brighton to Fort Lupton is generally a beginner friendly 9 mile trip that is lined with cottonwoods hosting numerous birds and other wildlife… a nice way to begin the paddling season. There is one mandatory portage at a dam and one boat chute drop early on that will most likely be portaged depending on conditions. Meet at Veterans Park in Brighton and be ready to begin the car shuttle no later than 9 am. Take out is at Fort Lupton’s ballfields park. Bring Rain Gear\, canoe floatation\, painters\, spare paddle and of course a PFD. Also bring a set of dry clothes in a water proof bag and a lunch or snack. Don’t pack too heavy\, the two portages are not all that easy\, and you need to cross a boulder field and fence. \nFor a detailed description of the river and parking areas go to: http://boc123.com/Kayak/RiverGuide/South_Platte_Brighton_City.cfm \nThis will be an ACA trip – e-mail your aca # to mat. If not an ACA member\, bring $10 per person for the insurance fee. Potentially the trip may be run on Sunday depending on the weather. \nWarning! – there are now multiple strainers (trees) in the river with a lot of tight turns – you need to have good boat handling skills to avoid them. \nNo sign ups before March 1st \nSign up with Trip Coordinator: Mat Bozek\, matbozekx@gmail.com to register for this trip or ask questions.

SUMMARY:Chatfield Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Don’t put your boat away quite yet. This is a beautiful time of year to paddle Chatfield Reservoir. The cottonwood trees are likely to be displaying their golden fall colors creating a stunning backdrop for the large number of birds (pelicans\, cormorants\, Canadian Geese\, king fishers\, etc.) that make the reservoir their home. We will be paddling in the no-wake zone that requires power boats to slow down enough to not create a large wake\, plus there are considerably fewer boats on the water in the fall offering a much quieter\, more peaceful paddling experience. Please be at the designated meeting place by 9:00 a.m. and be ready to paddle by 9:30. \nYou will need to pay a daily State Park pass of $10 per vehicle unless you have an annual State Parks sticker. This is an ACA sanctioned trip so a $10 liability insurance fee will be collected for all non-ACA members. If you are a ACA member please provide your ACA membership number to the Trip Coordinator before the trip. \nTrip Coordinators are Kit and Henry Williams. SUMMARY:Boundary Waters Canoe Area\, Minnesota
DESCRIPTION:These dates are tentative and may change depending on the needs of the group.  \nThe Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota\, and Quetico Provincial Park in Canada\, hug their respective sides of the border\, but combine to offer 3 million acres of road-less wilderness containing more than 3000 lakes\, protected from motorboats\, lodges\, and the encroachment of civilization. This is a land scraped to ancient bedrock by glaciers\, the resulting depressions becoming crystal clear lakes\, containing Lake Trout\, Walleye\, Pike\, & Bass\, surrounded by boreal forests and bogs. \nGo light. Leave the tables\, chairs and coolers at home. Go with freeze-dried food (it’s gotten a lot better; Mountain House is a good brand)\, one change of clothes is plenty\, and rent a Kevlar canoe if you don’t have one. If you can’t do a portage in a single (or double) trip\, you probably have too much stuff \nOur group size can be no more than Nine (9) people and four (4) canoes (no kayaks permitted on this trip). \nRequired for all overnight visitors Per person\, per trip recreation fee: Adult $16.00  Reservation people  Fee $6.00 reservation fee per permit\, on-refundable. \nBWCAW User Fee Discounts Interagency Senior/Access Pass Holders $8.00 person\, per trip. \nBecause of the distance we all have to travel I want to be flexible on the trip/trips length . If half the group wants to have a week trip and the other half wants a two-week trip\, then I would suggest two one-week trips with a day layover in between the two trips. The coast would be $16 or $8 per trip plus $6.00 reservation fee per permit. This can be decided by the people who sign up. \nWe would canoe to a campsite and use it as a base camp. Set up camp and stay multi nights paddling out from the campsite each day until all surrounding area have been paddled then move and set up another basecamp paddling out from the campsite each day until all surrounding area have been paddled then move and set up another basecamp . \nPlease contact Dick Wilkins at dw5geo@hotmail.com to register or if you want further information. \nThis is an RMCC/ACA sponsored event so an additional $10 insurance fee will be required for those who are not members of ACA. If you are a member\, please send Dick your ACA membership number before the trip.

We paddle Sunday morning and plan to take out between noon and 2:00\, allowing people time to return home Sunday afternoon or take a leisurely soak in the nearby Saratoga Hot Springs. \nIt is mandatory that you have a Wyoming Game & Fish Invasive Species decal for your boat and your boat also needs to be inspected when entering Wyoming (https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Fishing-and-Boating/Aquatic-Invasive-Species-Prevention). This is an ACA-sanctioned trip requiring either an ACA membership or a $10 single-event fee per person. \nPlease contact Judy Moisey-Asay  at canoeingIT@gmail.com or call 303-229-2223 to register for this trip.
