A group pot luck will begin at 11:30\, offering another opportunity to share paddling experiences and opportunities with your fellow boaters. \nCost: For insurance purposes this is an ACA (American Canoe Association) event. Demo Day is free if you are a current ACA member (you must provide your ACA number) or $10 for people who are not an ACA member. \nPre-registration is required. SUMMARY:POSTPONED TO APRIL 1: Check back for updates 18th Almost Annual Joint Club Paddle -- South Platte Evans to Kersey or Kuner
DESCRIPTION:Our hopes have been dashed by weather for Saturday March 25 \, so we are rescheduling for Saturday\, April 1 with a re-evaluation of the weather on Thursday March 30th. \nHope springs eternal as weather warms (and chills)\, sun shines (and it snows) and thoughts edge closer (regardless!) to boating.  Five boating clubs are aiming for Saturday\, March 25 for the Joint Club Paddle with a snow day alternative of April 1.  See the 2023 Joint Club flier for important details.  Registration is not essential\, but is helpful for planning.  And we are trying a Google Forms\, on-line registration this year — complements of our partner HCRR.  Thanks Nick!  \nTo register on-line click on 2023 Joint Club Registration. or just email me at gvmutz at gmail.com. \nHope you can join us!  Read the flier for particulars and contact me or another of the trip hosts (see the flier) with any questions. \nKathryn

SUMMARY:South Platte River: Brighton to Fort Lupton March 18th\, 9:00 am - to 2:00pm
DESCRIPTION:Early Spring Beginner Day Paddle! \nMarch 18th\, 2023 @ 9:00 am – to 2:00pm (could reschedule to Sunday\, March 18\, depending on weather)\nSign ups begin March 1st \n The South Platte River from Brighton to Fort Lupton is generally a beginner friendly 9 mile trip that is lined with cottonwoods hosting numerous birds and other wildlife… a nice way to begin the paddling season. There is one mandatory portage at a dam and one boat chute drop early on that will most likely be  portaged depending on conditions. Meet at Veterans Park in Brighton and be ready to begin the car shuttle no later than 9 am.  Take out is at Fort Lupton’s ballfields park.  Bring Rain Gear\, canoe floatation\, painters\, spare paddle and of course a PFD. Also bring a set of dry clothes in a water proof bag and a lunch or snack.  Don’t pack too heavy\,  the two portages are not all that easy\, and you need to cross  a boulder field and fence. \nFor a detailed description of the river and parking areas go to: http://boc123.com/Kayak/RiverGuide/South_Platte_Brighton_City.cfm \nThis will be an ACA trip – e-mail your aca # to Mat. If not an ACA member\, bring $10 per person for the insurance fee.   Potentially the trip may be run on Sunday depending on the weather. \nWarning! – there are now a very lot of strainers (trees) in the river with a lot of tight turns – you need to have good boat handling skills to avoid them.  The lower the water is\, the tighter the gaps past the sweepers.  I expect the water to be on the low side of average \nSign up with trip coordinator Mat Bozek\,   matbozekx@gmail.com  No sign ups before  March 1st

SUMMARY:Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The RMCC Annual Meeting and Appetizer/Dessert Potluck will be held Saturday November 12 from 3:00 – 5:30 at the Greenway Park Clubhouse:  110 Greenway Drive\, Broomfield\, CO 80020 — Greenway Park Clubhouse Map. \nWe also welcome participation by Zoom in the business and photo presentation portions of the meeting. BYO appetizer/dessert. \n  \nOfficer Elections: \nAn essential part of the annual meeting is election of officers for the following year. Last year we added three new faces to the board as members stepped up to replace our retiring officers (Brookie Gallagher as Tripmaster\, Miry Broughall as Quartermaster\, and John Licht as Treasurer) and filled new needs (Anne Fiore as Conservation Coordinator and Miry as Boat Master\, a role she had taken on during the 2021 season). \nWe always appreciate new blood as it brings with it new energy and ideas. \nAll of the 2022 officers have agreed to serve another one-year term — if re-elected at our meeting — BUT: \n  \nIf you are interested in considering a leadership role in the club\, please see the description of our officer positions. For more information or to volunteer\, contact me or one of the other officers you would like to replace (with our blessing!) or assist in 2023 with the potential for running for the office in 2024. \nFor More Information on the Annual Meeting or to Participate by Zoom: \nPlease RSVP to Kathryn or simply look for more information via the GoogleGroup for: \n\na Zoom invitation about a week before the meeting;\nInfo on submitting photos for the Boating Photos presentations (in-person or via Zoom); or\nto show & tell at the Gadget Showcase.

SUMMARY:San Juan River (Sand Island to Mexican Hat)
DESCRIPTION:San Juan River from Sand Island to Mexican Hat paddling for 3.2 days below Bluff\, UT. \nOctober 13 – 15 (or 16)\, 2022 \nThis will be an ACA-sanctioned outing/event which requires EITHER ACA membership OR a $10/person insurance fee.  The trip is a series of 3 days through interesting geologic formations with 1 class II+ (or III- based on water levels) rapids that we will scout\, and a couple of class II rapids.  We plan to see most of the petroglyph sites and ruins\, including the Butler Wash Panel\, the Desecration Panel area\, River House\, Chinle Wash\, and the Mule’s Ear Diatreme geologic area. \nWe will purchase the Navajo Nation’s backcountry hiking and camping permits at $45 for 3 days to allow access on the left bank.  This along with $12 in BLM fees will mean that a check for $57 to me will be needed very soon.  We will decide whether to pay $75 per car for the shuttle or do it ourselves. \nI will need to let go of any of the 15 slots that we did not fill 3 weeks ahead of the trip so that I can get some of my money back.    Note that helmets\, floating painters\, floatation bags\, throw rope and bailing devices are needed and we are hoping for 700-2000cfs and good weather. \nMost of us will camp October 12th (night before our launch) at Sand Island and enjoy the petroglyphs there.  Depending on how quickly we cover the 27 total miles\, some of us will stay on the Navajo side the 3rd river night with great views of the Mexican Hat formation and others will paddle out the final 4 miles. \n  \nContact Karen A. <canoekarena@msn.com> now to get details and to sign up.

SUMMARY:Ruby - Horsethief Canyons of the Colorado\, Loma to Westwater\, October 11 - 14\, 2022: 3 nights / 4 days
DESCRIPTION:This is a autumn trip — 4-days / 3-nights — paddling and hiking in Horsethief and Ruby Canyons of the Colorado River in western Colorado and eastern Utah — Tuesday\, October 11th – Friday\, October 14th.  If all goes well we will launch the 11th by 10 am\, be hiking in Rattlesnake Canyon (Mile 3.2) until late afternoon and camping at Beavertail 2 (Mile 3.6).  The 12th we’ll paddle about 10 miles to Mee Canyon (Mile 13.6)\, hiking in the afternoon/evening and/or the following morning to early afternoon.  Late afternoon\, October 13\, we paddle about 3 miles down to Black Rocks 5 (Mile 16.5).  October 14 is takeout day — but don’t expect to get to Westwater before late afternoon.  We will start early and paddle about 1.5 miles to McDonald Creek to check out the petroglyphs and then another .2 mile to Knowles Canyon to hike.   \nSee the recently revised trip flier for details and requirements. \nBecause this is intended to be a boating AND HIKING trip\, expect to be paddling in the late afternoon when the winds are likely to be the worst.  The two longest hikes (Rattlesnake Canyon on Day 1 and Knowles Canyon on Day 4 will not be hiking from camp.  You don’t have to hike\, but BLM rules require that\, as boaters\, we stay together as a group.

SUMMARY:Stillwater Canyon on the Green River Mineral Bottom to Spanish Bottom Sept. 9 -Sept. 14\, 2022. Trip full. Waitlist available.
DESCRIPTION:Put-in: Mineral Bottom\nTake-out: Confluence/Spanish Bottom\nPaddling distance: 52 miles\nDates: 9/9-9/14\, 2022\nRiver difficulty: Class I\nACA Event Status: ACA sanctioned trip. CURRENT ACA membership or $10 event fee required. Helmets not required\nMeet-up time at Tex’s in Moab\, UT: TBD\, but probably about 10:00am (might depend on the wind predictions for that\nday)\nEstimated time of take-out: Tex’s will meet us at 10am on the day of take out with a jet boat to take us back to Moab.\nArrive back at Tex’s at about 2PM\nTrip Coordinator: Lindsay Meeks | 303-718-6940 | Lindsay.L.Meeks@gmail.com\nShuttle costs: $200 per Adult (13 and up) plus $45 per canoe (A $100 non-refundable deposit per person will be required)\nShuttle Reservation: Once approved for the trip\, each participant will need to submit their deposit directly with Tex’s. A\nlink will be provided so that this can be done online.\nPermit Costs (NPS): $36 Permit Reservation fee (divided by group) + $25 per person\nCOVID-19 requirements: All participants must be fully vaccinated and boosted.\nOverview:\nThe trip through Stillwater Canyon takes us through Canyonlands National Park. Amazing rock formations and scenery on\na grand scale along with ruins and rock art sites provide plenty of opportunities for exploration. The river provides access\ninto the Doll House and the Maze.\nSince there is no road access at the end of this run when we reach the confluence with the Colorado River we will arrange for a jet boat shuttle back upstream the Colorado River to Moab\, through Tex’s Riverways. Each participant will\nbe required to pay for their part of the shuttle.\nNote that our travel schedule will depend\, in part\, on wind predictions\, but our BLM permit requires that we “launch\,\ntravel (stay within visual contact) and camp together as a group”.\nSince Moab is a 6-7 hour drive from the Front Range\, most paddlers will arrive in the area the night before put-in with\neveryone on their own for camping or lodging. After meeting at Tex’s Riverways on put-in morning (time TBD)\, we’ll\noff-load boats and river gear and load onto their trailer. Once at Mineral Bottom we will start rigging the boats and we’ll\nhope to launch by 1:00.\nEach day we will try to be on the river by 9:00 or 9:30 unless we decide as a group a different time the night before.\nDepending on the speed and desires of the group we will be taking one or two layover days. After the Confluence\, I hope\nto have a layover at or near the Dollhouse trailhead so those that want to hike can do so.\nTo sign up for the trip\, contact Lindsay

SUMMARY:3 days in WY on the Green River (RMCC Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge)
DESCRIPTION:RMCC Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) paddling for 3 days in WY on the Green River below Fontanelle Reservoir followed by an optional day paddle below the Flaming Gorge dam. \nThis will be an ACA-sanctioned outing/event which requires EITHER ACA membership OR a $10/person insurance fee. The trip is a series of 3 class II day trips through the Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge on the Green River and a an optional continuation to new camps and Section A – still the Green River – below the Flaming Gorge dam for those who can handle II+ (III-) on Monday. Kit and Henry are arriving a day early to stake out and publicize some territory at the Weeping Rock or Slate Creek campgrounds or between them. These WY BLM campgrounds are free. Fossil Buttes National Monument is nearby. \nThe NWR does not allow camping\, so we will leave the tents in 1 place and do 3 day paddles likely of 16\, 18\, and 11 miles. The 2nd evening will be a potluck with Henry and Karen providing Dutch Oven specialties. If Visitor Center hours work for us we will try to see their exhibits. Information on wildlife to be seen is at: https://www.fws.gov/refuge/seedskadee/species . Note that helmets\, floating painters\, flotation\, throw rope and bailing devices are needed and we will want 800-2000cfs for each section that we do. There will be several weirs where we need to take a mild chute in the middle\, and some areas will require rock dodging especially where the river is braided and carrying less water. \nSign up soon\, as we are likely to reserve a few campsites near Dutch John where all group sites are already taken. These will get us close to the Section A run of 7 miles below the Flaming Gorge Dam. This area is pool drop\, full of fishermen\, and includes Mother-in-law Rapid. Scenery is beautiful and we take out at Little Hole early enough to do the drive home or to wherever. \nContact Karen Amundson (canoekarena@msn.com) to sign up.
