DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, January 11 from 1:30 – 4:30 pm — Come one\, come all! If you love canoeing be sure to put this meeting on your calendar. This is the time RMCC members\, family\, and guests come together to learn about possible canoe trips and classes and help determine the club’s 2020 event calendar. Trip coordinators are recruited and dates selected during this meeting. (Popular trips often fill up during this party.) Many multi-day trips require permits and the odds of getting a permit increases considerably if a group of people put in for the same dates (see information about the permit lottery application process below). Time will be given at the end of the meeting for people wishing to register for the same lottery  permitted trip so they can plan and coordinate possible dates to increase our collective chances of winning a permit. For the list of river and lake trips RMCC has offered in previous years\, including the ones that require a permit\, click the following link: List of Permit and non-permit rivers. \nThis is also an excellent meeting for people who are not members of RMCC but wish to know more about the club and its activities. If you can’t attend\, consider sending Lynne Carpenter\, the club’s Trip Master\, the names of the trips in which you are interested so the trip coordinators can add you to their list of possible participants. \nIf you are more of an adrenaline junkie or like longer trips\, you can look at American Whitewater’s list of the lottery permitted rivers here. Lottery permitted rivers are typically multi-day\, class III and IV rivers throughout the western US. The permit lottery application season is open from Dec1 to January 31 for almost all lottery rivers (at least one exception: the Rio Chama lottery\, which closes on 1/15.) Also consider applying for the Grand Canyon 2021 lottery! We have experienced boaters who can serve as trip leaders  and advisors to get paddlers down the more technical /difficult and logistically challenging rivers (by canoe\, duckie\, raft\, etc.). \nPlan on bringing an appetizer or snack to share and a beverage of your choice. Please also consider bringing your own reusable plate\, bowl\, cup\, and utensils to reduce waste. \nThe party is being held at: \nGreenway Park Clubhouse\n110 Greenway Drive\, Broomfield\, Co  80020\nIt is in Broomfield one block south of 120th Avenue and a short block East of Main St. \nFor those of you wonderful volunteers who are willing to be a trip coordinator or co-coordinator in 2020\, please let Lynne know which trips you wish to lead and possible dates. DESCRIPTION:  \nA WAITING LIST HAS BEEN STARTED FOR THE OKEFENOKEE PART OF THE TRIP BUT THE 7 DAY SUWANEE RIVER SECTION IS STILL OPEN. \nPaddle from Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge\, Georgia to Spirit of The Suwanee Music Park\, Live Oak Florida  \nPart A-Okefenokee Swamp \nKingfisher Landing\, NE side of Okefenokee to Stephen Foster State Park\, West side of Okefenokee. 5 days 4 nights\, the longest period we are allowed to stay in the Okefenokee. \nRoute- Kingfisher Landing to Maul Hammock-12 miles\, to Big Water-8 miles\, to Floyds Island-7 miles\, to Canal Run-4 miles\, to Stephen Foster State Park-7 miles.  38 Miles total. \nPart B-Suwanee River \nStephen Foster State Park GA\, to Spirit of the Suwanee Music Park\, Live Oak FL. \nRoute- We will follow the Suwanee River for 7 days and 6 nights\, camping at various places\, possibly a campground\, sand bars and a river camp.  About 96 miles. \nCosts \nShuttle from Live Oak to Kingfisher Landing around $50 per person\, provided at least 4 people are on this trip.  Okefenokee fees.  $10 per group processing fee\, $15 per person per night camping fee.  Griffs Fish Camp (just a few miles past SF SP\, our 1st camp on the Suwanee) charges $5 per person to camp there.  They have showers and toilets.  Sand bar camping is free.  Woods Ferry River Camp\, our last camp on the Suwanee has showers\, toilets\, screened in shelters and is free.  Total per person minimum is $120. Canoes are available for rent at the Canoe Outpost at the Music Park if you don’t want to haul yours across country.   As always\, plan for unexpected costs and things that I may have forgotten. \nGroup size \nBecause platforms for camping in the Okefenokee swamp are only 20’x28’ we plan to limit our group to about 12 people for this section of the trip. DESCRIPTION:Desolation and Gray Canyons\, Green River\, Utah\nSeptember 10-18 \nCome explore a desert canyon (Desolation) just added to America’s wilderness areas in February (along with Labyrinth Canyon\, Muddy Creek and the San Rafael Swell). \nThese two desert sandstone canyons provide an 84-mile paddle between the put-in at Sand Wash near Duchesne\, Utah and the take-out at Swaseys Rapid above Green River\, Utah. The run includes several class two and three or four class three rapids. SUMMARY:San Juan River\, September 8th – 14th
DESCRIPTION:San Juan River\, September 8th – 14th \nThis trip is a 7-day 6-night float on the lower part of the San Juan River from Mexican Hat to Clay\nHills Crossing.  Come prepared for lots of hiking.  We’ll plan to stop for hikes at the Mendenhall\nLoop\, the Honaker Trail\, Government Rapid canyon\, Oljeto Wash\, and at Slickhorn Canyon where\nwe’ll try to camp and spend a half-day or more. \nThe San Juan is a Class III river with multiple Class II drops and one solidly Class III rapid\n(Government Rapid) that may be possible to line or portage. Participants are expected to have the\nappropriate experience and skills. Although the San Juan is generally low this time of year\, we may\nhave higher water levels this year. \nCost:  $20/person for the river permit and $24/person for 2 days of camping and hiking on the\nNavajo Nation.  Total Cost: $44/person.  There will be additional costs to park cars long term at\nMexican Hat\, and if we decide to use a commercial shuttle service. \nPut in:  Sunday\, September 8 th  Mexican Hat\nTake out: Saturday\, September 14 th \, Clay Hills Crossing \nAs of mid-July there are 4 spots open. SUMMARY:RMCC North Platte Glendo to Guernsey
DESCRIPTION:RMCC members and guests are welcome to float the North Platte River from Glendo Reservoir almost to Guernsey Reservoir. This is a fun\, day long paddling trip and I hope you can join us. It is Class I+ with one Class II section of standing waves that can be avoided; helmets required here. The float is on Saturday\, July 20.  Most will be camping in Two Moon Campground in Glendo State Park on Friday night (its about a 3 hour drive from Denver) before the trip as well as Saturday night for those who choose (there will be an optional  potluck that night) \nFull details can be found here: Glendo to Guernsey details. Please read the linked document as it has a lot of important information. It is also mandatory that you have a Wyoming Game & Fish Invasive Species decal for your boat and your boat also needs to be inspected when entering Wyoming. SUMMARY:RMCC Memorial Day Niobrara River - survived the flood; trip is a GO
DESCRIPTION:This will be an ACA-sanctioned outing/event which requires EITHER ACA membership OR a $5/person insurance fee.  This is an easy\, kids-friendly class 1 river\, with our campground in the middle of the run.  Each day will be about 12 miles and about 4 hours. Contact Bill Ashworth (washwort@gmail.com) to register for the trip. \nThis beautiful stretch is one of America’s premier scenic heritage waterways; we’ll see many waterfalls\, beautiful hardwood forests\, and birds!  And the resident buffalo herd at the Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge (https://www.fws.gov/refuge/fort_niobrara/ ) often has calves this time of year.  We run the river on Saturday and Sunday. Most will car camp at Smith Falls State Park\, Friday – Sunday nights (May 24-27); return to the Front Range after breakfast on Monday (about a 6-7 hour drive back to Denver) or continue to see the sights of Nebraska or head up to South Dakota. \nNiobrara River Trail description here .  \nDescription from Backpacker magazine:  http://www.backpacker.com/stories/paddle-nebraska-s-niobrara-river \nRiver gage at https://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?site_no=06461500.  We ran it at about 1500 cfs in 2017.  \nSaturday\, we’ll meet at 11am (CDT) ready to shuttle from the Cornell Bridge put-in near Valentine\, down to the State Park campground and beach the canoes and then start from then again on Sunday.   If you are not camping\, but meeting us in the morning\, see the note\, below for directions. \nSaturday evening – optional potluck appetizers and dinner at one of the convenient campsites (location to be announced and look for the RMCC banner).  There is a large group shelter generallyavailable in case of rain. \nSunday\, we’ll meet near the boat ramp (where we took out on Saturday) at 10am (CDT) ready to shuttle from the campground to the take-out – probably at Sunny Brook Camp\, about a mile upstream of Rocky Ford.  The shuttle takes over an hour\, so non-drivers should plan to relax\, hike to Smith Falls\, and/or birdwatch at the campground while the drivers are driving. DESCRIPTION:White River from Trujillo Wash to the Enron Gas Wells take out  – 65 miles\, Class II \nThis is a three day\, two night trip .  Plan on two nights camping on the river –  but with a strong group\, we may opt to do the trip in two days/one night depending on flow – that  would allow a full day for the long drive back – it is 285 miles from Denver to Rangely and another 30 or more miles to and from the takeout.  Shuttle takes a good 2 to 3 hours round trip. Put in at Trujillo Wash and take out at Enron Gas Wells. \nRiver Rating is Class I/II  (helmet required). There is one Class II rapid in Cowboy Canyon that can “generally” be avoided.  Intermediate paddling skill is required – this is NOT a beginner level trip. You must be able to maneuver your canoe around many strainers and through tight corners with very strong eddy lines\, and be able to eddy out quickly. \nBLM’s Floating the White River brochure describes this portion of the River “for 100 miles between Rangely\, Colorado\, and the river’s confluence with the Green River\, the White River cuts a rugged\, scenic trough into the high desert plains of the Uintah Basin. DESCRIPTION:THIS TRIP IS CURRENTLY FULL AND A WAITING LIST HAS BEEN STARTED. If you wish to be added to the waiting list\, please contact  Trip Coordinator Dan Custer at custer.dan@gmail.com \n  \nThe South Beach to Duffy Mountain stretch of the Yampa an easy flatwater/Class I trip.  Last year we had very good flow\, even though later in the summer the river had extremely low water.  Early May is a good time to float the Yampa because the bugs will not be a problem\, there should not be competition for campsites\, and for the last couple of years the water level in early May has been excellent. \nThis is a good trip to break your gear out of storage and get ready for the canoe season.  It is also an easy trip for people new to canoeing and canoe camping to go out on an overnight trip.  Pack a warm sleeping bag because the morning will likely be frosty. \nThe first day’s float will be through private ranch land\, and that is where the eagle nests will be seen.  The last two years we not only spotted bald eagles and their nests\, we also saw baby eagles in the nests.  The second day will be paddling through BLM land\, which is more scenic but without the eagle nests.  Flocks of sheep with big scary sheep dogs may be on river left\, but we will not be camping with them. \nTo register for this event\, email Trip Coordinator Dan Custer at custer.dan@gmail.com.

DESCRIPTION:Lynne Carpenter has a Ruby-Horsethief permit for up to 14 people (total) launching on Friday\, April 26 and taking out on Sunday\, April 28. Contact Lynne at  lynnecarpenter@gmail.com to register for this trip. \nThis stretch is located on the Colorado River where it crosses the CO – UT border. River mileage has traditionally been measured from the Loma put-in\, NOT the Robb State Park put-in that we will be using (which is about 3 miles upstream from Loma). So if you do your own research (which I highly encourage) you’ll see mile markers – those refer to miles downstream from Loma put-in. \nReady for Shuttle at the put-in: 2 pm April 26 (the shuttle takes at least 45 minutes each way)\nLaunch: 4pm on Friday\, April 26\nPut-in: The boat ramp at Robb State Park\, Fruita Section (three miles upstream from the Loma launch). There are multiple parts of Robb State Park. Use this address:\nJames M. Robb – Colorado River State Park – Fruita Section\, 595 595 Highway 340\, Fruita\, CO 81521.  The put-in is about 4 hours drive from the west side of Denver metro area (Golden area).  (It is safer to leave our shuttle vehicle at the state park than at the Loma put-in.)\nCampsite Friday night\, 4/26: Rattlesnake Canyon (~6-7 miles from the Robb State Park put-in\, 3.2 river miles from the Loma put-in)\nCampsite Saturday Night\, 4/27: Mee Canyon (~15-16 miles from the Robb State Park put-in\, 12.7 river miles from Loma put-in).\nTake-out:  Westwater Ranger Station in Utah (26 miles from the Robb State Park put-in\, ~23 miles from the Loma Put-in) \nDescription: \nThe Ruby-Horsethief section of the Colorado River runs through beautiful red rock canyons and has many hiking opportunities offering both solitude and exploration. This section of the canyon\, from Fruita\, Colorado\, to Westwater\, Utah\, is a ~26-mile stretch of mostly flat water with sections of Class I and II rapids. The “Black Rocks” section is composed of rock known as Vishnu schist\, which dates back about 1.7 billion years. This same rock is exposed in certain sections of the Grand Canyon. If the weather and water levels are reasonable (contact me if you have any questions) this float is appropriate for relatively inexperienced canoeists and boaters. There is one class II rapid in the Black Rocks section of the river\, which we can scout if requested. It can be relatively-easily be sneaked on river right. \nRuby Horsethief Canyon is 25 miles through a spectacular river canyon\, a desert environment\, and very mild waters. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area including great blue herons\, bald eagles\, peregrine falcons\, mule deer\, and desert bighorn sheep. Look up in old cottonwoods trees and you are likely to spot nests and eagles. \nAfter we shuttle our vehicles to the takeout at Westwater Ranger Station\, we’ll put-in at Robb State Park and float about 6 miles down to Rattlesnake Canyon (campsite first evening). We hike and play in Rattlesnake Canyon Friday night and Saturday morning. Late Saturday morning\, we’ll float down to our second campsite at Mee Canyon. We hike and play in Mee Canyon Saturday afternoon and Sunday early morning. We float the remaining ~13 miles out to the takeout (Westwater Ranger Station) Sunday morning\, load up\, and drive home. \nThe Denver and Rio Grande Railroad parallels the river from Salt Wash until Westwater on river right\, so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. All boaters are required to abide by Bureau of Land Management river regulations (including the use of a groover\, fire pan\, etc). \nDirections \nPut-In\nI-70 to Exit 19 at Fruita. South on HWY 340 for 1/2 a mile. Park entrance is on the west side of the highway.\nTake-out\nTravel back into Utah on I-70 for about 5 miles to the Westwater exit. (Exit 227). Travel south off the highway for about 9 miles to the ranger station\, picnic area\, and boat ramp.

SUMMARY:Missouri Sampler: Current\, Jacks Fork & 11 Point Rivers
DESCRIPTION:All 3 of these beautiful rivers are located in the Ozarks of south central Missouri. They are spring fed and crystal clear.  Dispersed camping is allowed on these rivers. \nEminence\, Missouri  is central to these rivers and is about 900 miles from Denver. We will meet up and camp together Apr. 19h at Montauk State Park\, near Salem Missouri.  You can reserve a site by calling 877-422-6766.  They also have first come first served sites.  Try to arrive before dark. \nDay 1-4 Shuttle vehicles to takeout at Two Rivers access\, then \nWe will float 43 miles of the Current River from Cedar Grove to Two Rivers (confluence of Current and Jacks Fork). This section can be done in 3 days\, but we are allowing 4 days so we have time to hike and explore.  This should be the easiest of the 3 rivers and is a class 1 section.  After reaching the takeout we will shuttle boats to Prongs access put in on the Jacks Fork.  We will have an opportunity to resupply before we begin the second leg of our trip. \nDay 5-7 Shuttle vehicles to takeout\, same Two Rivers Access\, then We will float 44 miles of the Jacks Fork\, Prongs Access to Two Rivers.  We are allowing 3 days for this section.  This may be the most scenic of the 3 rivers and a possible class 2 rapid on this section.  After reaching the takeout\, we will shuttle boats to Cane Bluff Access put in on the Eleven Point River.   We will have an opportunity to resupply before we begin the third leg of our trip. \nDay 8-10 Shuttle vehicles to takeout at Highway 142\, then We will float 35 miles of the Eleven Point\, Cane Bluff Access to highway 142 Access.  We are allowing 3 days for this section.  This may be the most challenging of the 3 rivers with a couple class 2 rapids.   \nShuttle: shuttles for this 3 -river trip. DESCRIPTION: The South Platte River from Brighton to Fort Lupton is generally a beginner friendly 9 mile trip that is lined with cottonwoods hosting numerous birds and other wildlife… a nice way to begin the paddling season. There is one mandatory portage at a dam and one boat chute drop early on that may be run or portaged depending on conditions. Meet at Veterans Park in Brighton and be ready to begin the car shuttle no later than 9 am.  Take out is at the Fort Lupton’s ballfields park.  Bring Rain Gear\, canoe floatation\, painters\, spare paddle and of course a PFD. DESCRIPTION:Creating delectable meals for week end canoe trips\, much less multi-day expeditions\, is challenging for even the most seasoned paddler. To help you plan for your upcoming canoe adventures\, several of RMCC’s experienced members will share their hard won knowledge on how to develop tasty camp meals demonstrating the following topics:  \n·       How to pack fresh items like meats\, fruits\, vegetables\, and cheeses to last through an entire trip with and without a cooler (presenter: Karen Amundson) \n·       Cooking with a Dutch oven (presenter: Henry Williams) \n·       Baking with a BakePacker\, an easy inexpensive way to bake on a camp stove (presenter: Bill Ashworth) \n·       Assembling dehydrated meals and how to dehydrate your own food; using off the shelf items to create meals for long trips; improving freeze dried meals with the addition of spices and other items (presenters: Dan Custer and Lynne Carpenter) \n·       Demonstrating and discussing the pros and cons of various water and food storage methods (presenters: Kit Williams and Bill Ashworth) \n Canoeing Cuisine will be held Sunday\, April 7 from 1:00-4:00 pm at Indian Hills Community Center\, 5381 Parmalee Gulch Road\, Indian Hills  CO  80454 \n  \nWe will also have participants share their favorite camping recipes and exchange tips on ways they make camping meals more enjoyable. There is no cost for this event but we will ask everyone to send Kit Williams electronic copies of their favorite camp recipes that will be distributed to all registered participants. SUMMARY:Postponed to April 6:   15th Almost Annual Joint Spring Paddle -- the South Platte Trip is Back\, but Changed!
DESCRIPTION:The Rocky Mountain Canoe Club\, Poudre Paddlers Club\, Flatwater Frogs\, Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak Club\, and High Country River Rafters will be back on the South Platte to celebrate the 2019 padding season.  Our traditional put-in at Riverside Park in Evans\, Colorado has reopened following restoration of severe damage from the September 2013 floods. But Weld County has closed the road to our Kersey takeout for bridge demolition.\n \nBecause weather on March 30 is expected to be wintery\, join us on Saturday\, April 6 (weather permitting) on a Class I\, family friendly paddle from Brighton to Ft.
