SUMMARY:CANCELLED -RMCC Gross Reservoir Day Paddle Sat June 4 2022
DESCRIPTION:Due to Denver Water’s closure of the Osprey Pt boat access for the duration of the dam expansion project\, this trip has been cancelled. They are proposing expanding the North access\, but that won’t happen until June and may involve a 1/4 steep carry to the water. If the North Access becomes reasonable\, we may reschedule this trip later in the summer. \nPlease join us for a paddle and picnic on Gross Reservoir – a hidden gem in the foothills above Boulder. This Denver Water reservoir is nestled among beautiful Ponderosa Pine forests and Granite rock\, affording 10 miles of shoreline and 440 acres of surface area paddling. We’ll enjoy a morning paddle followed by picnic lunch at the South Boulder Creek inlet. This is an ACA-sanctioned trip which requires either an ACA membership or $10 for insurance. Owner’s name\, address\, and phone number must be legibly marked on all canoes and kayaks per Gross Reservoir ranger. Also\, only non-motorized car-top-carried boats are allowed\, and boats can be no more than 18-feet in length. \nBe at the boat ramp ready to paddle at 9am (strong winds come up most afternoon) and the access road fills early with paddle boarders and kayakers. \nDirections From Boulder: \n\nHead west on Baseline Road which becomes Flagstaff Road and then eastern Gross Dam Road.\nFollow signs to Osprey Boat Launch Site.\nDriving time is approximately 45 minutes from Baseline and Broadway.\n\nDirections from Denver:Take Highway 93 north to Highway 72. \n\nTurn left (west) on Highway 72 toward Pinecliffe to County Road 77/Gross Dam Road.\nTurn right on Gross Dam Road and follow signs to Osprey Boat Launch Site\nDrive time is approximately 1.25 hours from Denver to Gross.\n\nPlease RSVP to Bill (contact info below) by the preceding Thursday. \nCoordinators: \nBill Ashworth\, 720-352-6456  washwort at gmail.com

SUMMARY:Grand Lake/Shadow Mountain Lake- Day Trip. Sunday\, June 5th.  Launch at 10am
DESCRIPTION: Be ready to launch at 10 am Sunday  \n We will start at Grand Lake and paddle through the inlet to Shadow Mountain Lake\, hugging the east shoreline going south. At the far end of Shadow Mountain Lake\, we can explore some of the islands that are not posted as raptor nesting areas. With a little luck we might see an Osprey catch a fish. We have seen elk\, deer\, eagles and moose on this paddle. It’s a beautiful place. On the way back we will paddle to the east end of Grand Lake. It’s fun to see the many boat houses\, both rustic and modern\, that line parts of the lake shore. Then we will take a short hike to Adams Falls. We will meet at the Grand Lake Town Beach and Dock\, right across from the public restrooms on Lake Ave. It’s just a block south of downtown Grand Lake and there is plenty of free parking and no launch fees.  Be ready to launch at 10am. Getting an early start is always a good idea to avoid potential afternoon winds. Bring a lunch as this trip typically takes 5 or 6 hours paddling around 8 miles.  June is a great time for this trip. Adams Falls will be really kicking from spring runoff\, and fewer tourists around than later in the summer. SUMMARY:Big Horn Canyon Lake\, Montana June 10-19\, 2022. Cancelled.
DESCRIPTION:We will start paddling June 10th 9am\, so arrive and camp June 9th at Horseshoe Bend Campground (first come\, first serve campground). Please allow flexibility in the end date of this trip\, in case a layover or weather day is needed. \nThis trip will be at the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. The lake is in northern Wyoming and southern Montana – and we will paddle about 120 miles over approximately 8-10 days \, paddling from one end of the lake\, then back to the put in (with an option to self-shuttle and end your trip half-way). Tracy and Janet paddled here in 2020 and 2021\, finding it rewarding enough to return once again. We will limit this trip to about 12 people. \nThe Bighorn Canyon Lake is long and narrow. It was created when the Yellowtail Dam was constructed on the Bighorn River. This incredibly beautiful canyon is not on many people’s radar\, do not expect big crowds. Because of the number of people in this club strangely attracted to the “G” word\, perhaps I shouldn’t use it – but here goes- The GEOLOGY here is spectacular! Although power boats are allowed\, we will likely experience much peace and solitude while paddling by the sheer canyon walls. Fishing here must be good\, that’s what most of the people come here for. We saw very few paddlers here on our previous trips. This is a flat water lake trip\, however wind and resulting waves can potentially make this a challenging paddle. There are a couple of developed campsites on the lake (picnic tables and outhouses)\, although we will primarily camp at primitive/non-developed sites. A couple of the campsites offer opportunities for some hiking.  \nThis is remote bear country. Our first year paddling this canyon we saw 3 bears at different places\, although last year we only saw bear tracks and scat. So bear canisters are highly recommended – or you will need to find a way to hang your food – and no food or food odors (tooth paste\, deodorant\, soap\, anything smelly) in the tent or on you. We carried enough water to last 5-6 days\, as filtering water is not recommended. Also be prepared to deal with ticks and poison ivy. Weather can range from freezing temperatures\, to hot. \nThe put-in will be at Horseshoe Bend Campground\, near Lovell WY. We will paddle approximately 60 miles to Ok-A-Beh Marina near Ft Smith MT – where we can get fresh water. This part of the trip will take 4 or 5 days\, depending on weather conditions and how much time we spend hiking or paddling side canyons – and if we have a layover day. Then we paddle back to where we started in Horseshoe Bend Campground\, making the trip about 120-130 miles. If anyone wants to end their trip at Ok-A Beh\, they can self-shuttle at least two vehicles to here the day before the trip. There is no commercial shuttle service available here. We did this shuttle last year and it took over 7 hours\, which is why we are making this paddle “out and back”. \nWe plan on paddling around 15 miles a day. But\, depending on weather conditions\, and availability of campsites due to water levels at the time of the trip\, we might need to paddle some 20+ mile days. So\, you should be prepared and capable of paddling 20 miles per day.  \nEach boat will need both MT and WY AIS stickers (go online to get them). When traveling with boats in Wyoming and Montana\, you should stop at EVERY BOAT INSPECTION station you encounter\, even if you have already been inspected. Sites at Horseshoe Bend Campground are not reservable\, first come first served – although there were ample sites available when we camped there previously. \nIf you have time to explore Big Horn Canyon National Recreation area by vehicle before or afterwards\, there is some really cool stuff to see. Devil’s Canyon overlook is only a short drive from the campground and is a recommended “must see” to give you a view of what’s to come on this paddle. There’s also a historic ranch with some well-preserved outbuildings\, and an ancient Indian encampment with over 140 documented teepee rings. If you make this a one-way trip and shuttle\, you will drive by Chief Plenty Coups State Park\, and also the Edgar Bar – for the world’s best burger and a cold one. If the Bighorn Pass is open between Sheridan and Lovell\, it’s a scenic/beautiful drive\, with a short hike to “Medicine Wheel” National Historic Landmark site. Contact one of us to be added to this trip. \nAs mentioned above\, we want to limit the trip to 12 people. People that expressed interest in this trip have first opportunity to attend\, and there are more than 12. DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a lovely morning paddle around Standley Lake located at 100th Ave and Simms Street in Westminster. Remember to bring your binoculars for spotting the many birds that make this lake their summer home including bald eagles\, white pelicans\, cormorants\, mallard ducks and many more. If you are lucky you might even see a resident beaver. \nArrive around 8:30 a.m. and be ready to launch from Pelican Cove Day Use Area at 9:00. There is a $10 Daily Paddle Pass. SUMMARY:Trip is Full. North Platte River: Saratoga to I-80 June 24-26\, 2022 (Friday-Sunday)  Group size limit: 16
DESCRIPTION:Join RMCC for this Class I run through the beautiful Wyoming landscape full of birds and other wildlife\, just a half-day drive from Denver. This is a 3 day\, 2 night canoe camping trip. We’ll complete the car shuttle either Thursday afternoon or early Friday morning. (Trip leader is going up Thursday afternoon and hoping for help with the shuttle)  The shuttle takes approximately 1 ½ hours and all paddlers must be ready to launch by 10 am Friday morning. \n  \nThursday night:   For anyone who would like to go up Thursday afternoon or evening\, I would like to get a site at Pick Bridge\, where we will also camp Friday night. Pick Bridge has 3 campsites and since we have a large group\, getting a suitable site Thursday night will be desirable! \n  \nFriday:  We will have a full day of paddling\, getting on the water by 10 am\, to reach our camp at Pick Bridge. This campsite has a toilet. \nSaturday:  We will be paddling most of the day with an early stop at the Overland trail cemetery/historical site. We will be camping on private land Saturday night. There is NO toilet at this campsite. ***Each paddler must have their own personal waste system. All waste must be carried out. \n  \nSunday:  We paddle Sunday morning and plan to take out between noon and 2:00\, allowing people time to return home Sunday afternoon or take a leisurely soak in the nearby Saratoga Hot Springs. \n  \n***It is mandatory that you have a Wyoming Game & Fish Invasive Species decal for your boat and your boat also needs to be inspected when entering Wyoming (https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Fishing-and-Boating/Aquatic-Invasive-Species-Prevention).  \nThis is an ACA-sanctioned trip requiring either an ACA membership or a $10 single-event fee per person.   \nMaximum number of people : can be a variety of boats but 16 people maximum \nPlease contact Judy Moisey-Asay  at canoeingIT@gmail.com or call 303-229-2223 for more information.
