SUMMARY:Rendezvous on the Colorado at Radium Aug. 1-4\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:We will have have the 2025 Rendezvous at the Radium Campground (Aug 1-4) on the Upper Colorado River. We have Radium’s two group campsites and some sharable individual campsites available for Friday\, Saturday and Sunday nights and hope to be on the water Friday through Monday — water\, weather\, and boaters willing. See the RMCC Annual Rendezvous flyer\, 2025 or on the calendar for LOTS of detail\, including proposed runs\, camping\, costs/waivers\, volunteer opportunities\, special events (if I get volunteers)\, and more. \nAlthough currently the Colorado River flow is less than 900 cfs\, well less than the historical average of 3300 cfs\, it’s way too early to make any predictions about the expected flow during Rendezvous.  As always\, we’ll hope for reasonable water levels for fun and safe paddling for all abilities this year. Check the Colorado flows at Kremmling station for changes as you consider boating at Rendezvous. \nRegistration is not required\, but it makes life much easier for the organizers! To register AND sign up for volunteer positions\, go on-line to  2025 Rendezvous Registration. \nAnd\, if you have not signed an ANNUAL ACA waiver for 2025\, don’t forget to sign an ACA waiver for the event! \nAfter you read the flier\, if you have any questions or need more information\, contact Craig or Nita Flora at craigflora2000@yahoo.com or nflora631@yahoo.com

SUMMARY:Blue Mesa Reservoir Exploratory:  Sunday\, Aug 10th through Thursday Aug 14th
DESCRIPTION:Overview: First and foremost\, this is an exploratory trip.  The goal of this trip is to paddle at Blue Mesa Reservoir.  We are planning for 3 days of paddling. This is about a 6 hr drive from the Longmont area.\nNote that we tend to paddle steadily without lots of breaks.  Lunches are short since we often are in a race against wind and afternoon storms. \nDates: Sunday\, August 10th thru Thursday\, August 14th.    Note:  Folks can come for all or part. \nConditions: This is a flatwater outing.  Expect wind and waves!  Also\, not much shade in the campground so a sunshade or similar equipment is recommended. \nGroup Size: Since this is an exploratory outing\, I am thinking we should limit the number of participants\, but I am not sure what that should be.  And there may be a variety of craft so keeping together may be difficult but breaking into groups could help (assuming others are willing to lead).  More to come on this. \nPaddle Destination Suggestions: \n(1)    Lake Fork Canyon: This is a long canyon running southeast from the west side of the lake.  Might be a good destination if its windy.  The put-in would be the Lake Fork Marina. \n(2)    Soap Creek and West Elk Creek:  There is a boat access point on the north side of the reservoir at the Pinnacles Trailhead.  From there\, we can paddle west to explore these canyons. \n(3)    Bay of Chickens (aka “Windsurfing Area”) has good day access.  From there we can paddle across Cebolla Bay and explore the Cebolla Arm. \n(4)    Elk Creek: From there\, we can paddle east toward Iola Basin.  The lake is a bit narrower in this area. \n(5)    Steven’s Creek: There is a boat ramp here that is on the north side of Iola Basin \n(6)    Gunnison River into Blue Mesa: The Gunnison River east of Blue Mesa looked very moderate.  There is some info on Mountain Buzz about paddling it.  We could paddle into the lake itself or take out at one of the access points along the way.  If folks are interested in this\, let me know as it will take preparation. \n(7)    Silver Jack Reservoir:  This is south of Blue Mesa\, a much smaller reservoir about ½ of Union.  I don’t expect we’ll go there to paddle\, but it looks like a nice destination for another time. \n(8)    Morrow Point Reservoir: I have heard this is a cool place to paddle and camp.  But boating access to Morrow Point Reservoir is limited\, and the easiest way to get to the reservoir is by carrying your boat and gear down the 232 steps of the Pine Creek Trail. The trail follows the old railroad bed along the reservoir and offers fishing and camping. There are boat-in campsites along the north and south shores. You can get a Backcountry Permit for camping at the Pine Creek Trailhead.  This is here for reference only\, not part of this outing. \n(9)    Black Canyon of the Gunnison:  Opportunity exists for hiking but will not be part of the trip as originally planned since the drives to the trailheads are longer that originally estimated (hikes on the south side of Black Canyon do not descend into the canyon and it is a 40 mile drive to these trailheads;  hikes on the north side do descend into the canyon but it is a 50+ mile drive to the north side trailheads).  This is here for reference only\, not part of this outing. \nReservations for Camping: I expect we would want/need to get reservations.  Reservations open on Mar 17th.  I will monitor.  Everyone will be responsible for their own reservations. \nCamping: On our exploratory outing on Sunday\, March 9th\, we did a drive through of Lake Fork Campground which is essentially a paved parking lot.  While it is convenient to Lake Fork Arm\, Soap Creek and West Elk Creek it does not have much appeal as a campground for tenting\, so we have nixed this idea. \nWe drove and checked out the other campgrounds on the north side of the lake and here is what we found: \nEast Elk Creek: A really lovely group campground (at $120 / night) but it is closed for nesting eagles till August 15th (and we did see eagles and a nest on our scout) so this is not an option.  Also\, although it sits on a pond\, there is no direct water access to the reservoir. \nElk Creek: A large camping area near the visitor center.  Loop B (sites 56 – 97) look like they are closest to the water.  Walk-in sites 75 & 76 are the best and look to be about 150 yards from the water so hand launches from there are possible but bring wheels.  Sites 75\, 77\, 78\, 73 looked good too. \nIn general\, the drive-in sites along Loop B seems kind of small for a tent. \nLoop A sites that might work for tents are 12\, 33\, 35\, 37\, 42. \nLoop D did not look tent friendly at all. \nSteven’s Creek: Another camping area\, close to the east end of the reservoir on the north side.  There was a boat ramp in that area.  It appears that these sites are first come / first serve and pay-by-cell-phone enabled.  Highway noise would be a problem at any of the sites.  Sites 20\, 22\, 27\, 32\, 34 are good for tents. \nMeals: All meals will be on your own though a potluck happy hour would be nice. \nLaunching and Inspection Stations: Hand-launched and hand-powered vessels that meet Clean\, Drain\, Dry requirements do not need to be inspected and these watercraft are not required to launch at a boat ramp\, but trailers cannot enter the water.  Note that if you bring your boat on a trailer\, it will need to be inspected. \nOnline Info:  https://www.nps.gov/cure/planyourvisit/index.htm \nUS 50 Road Construction: Construction is complete! \n***FYI: This is an ACA- sanctioned trip and ACA membership OR $10 event fee required. RMCC and ACA waivers required.       Contact Anne to sign up. anne_fiore at yahoo.com

SUMMARY:Trip Full\, with Wait-list. Beginner/Intermediate Day Paddling on the Taylor and Arkansas Rivers. Aug. 17-approx Aug.22
DESCRIPTION:Trip is Full\, with Wait-list. Contact Trip Coordinator. \nThis will be a joint trip of Rocky Mountain Canoe Club and Missouri Whitewater Association (MWA) members. It will consist of several  Class II day paddles on the Taylor River followed by several day paddles on the Arkansas River. Paddlers will car camp. While still in the planning stages\, with details will follow\, below is a general sense of the trip. \nThe trip would begin at Lottis  Creek Group Campground on or about the evening of August 17.  \nFor the next three days we would divide into groups according to skill levels\, preference and group size and paddle various sections of the Taylor River as appropriate. \nAfter paddling the third day we would drive over to the Arkansas to a campground\, as yet to be determined\,  and spend the next three days doing the same activity on sections of the Arkansas.  The required water releases for rafting end each year on or about August 18. so runs on the Fractions\, Brown’s Canyon and several easier Arkansas River reaches will be more approachable. \nThis will be a great opportunity for building relationships between members of the two clubs\, both on the water and in camp in the evening. Missouri boaters are always interested in paddling in Colorado and knowing people who enjoy the same level of boating. And\,  RMCC people are interested in the Ozark streams of Missouri and Arkansas which the MWA folks know well and paddle  frequently.   \nThis will be an ACA trip. Contact Chris K. if you are interested in joining. cskelly1022 at gmail.com

SUMMARY:Cancelled. Colorado River: Cisco Landing to Lower Onion Creek August 25 & 26\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:**Unfortunately\, weather and low flow lead to the need to cancel.** \nBarring any late summer t-storms\, floating the Colorado River doesn’t get much easier than this! Canoes & sea\, touring\, or recreational kayaks will likely be best in the low river flow I anticipate we’ll have in late August. \n     For those who wish to car camp\, we’ll meet Sunday evening (8/24) at Dewey Bridge Campground\, 32 miles upstream from Moab on SR128. We’ll try to snag one of the group campsites with shade shelter as we did last year when all 3 were open. The camp area has vault toilets but no water. Camping fees will be shared. For those who prefer\, there is also dispersed camping nearby & numerous hotels in Moab\, 45 minutes drive.\n\n\n     Monday morning (8/25) we’ll gather at the Dewey Bridge Campground boat launch. From there we’ll drive to Cisco Landing where we’ll launch for a 16-mile flatwater paddle thru scenic desert & remote ranchland back to Dewey Bridge.\n\n     Tuesday morning (8/26) we’ll launch from Dewey Bridge to enjoy 8-miles of Class I water thru spectacular red rock canyons to the take-out at Lower Onion Creek Campground. Likely we’ll lunch at the take-out\, pack up & start for home early afternoon.\n\n     This is an ACA sanctioned outing that requires either ACA membership or $10/person insurance fee. In addition\, all boaters must complete the 2025 Utah mussel-aware boater course available through Utah Division of Wildlife.\n\nContact trip coordinator Karla Tanner for more information or to sign up: Kat81521 at gmail dot com
