SUMMARY:Flaming Gorge Car Camping
DESCRIPTION:Change in paddling plan to omit self supported kayak camping \nOrganizers: Gary Cage (gary_cage@greenspeedisp.net) and Anne Fiore (anne_fiore@yahoo.com) \n\nFriday\, July 10th: Drive to Flaming Gorge \nSaturday\, July 11th \,thru Wednesday\, July 15th \,. Meet at Buckboard Marina\, time to be determined the evening before. \nThursday\, July 16th : pack up and head home \nSuggested Paddles (some include driving from Buckboard to another access and putting in): \n(1) north from Buckboard and into Black’s Fork Arm; \n(2) south from Buckboard. There are a couple of cool coves to explore on the west side; \n(3) Starting at the Bringar (aka Holmes Crossing Access\, ~ 5 miles south of Buckboard) and paddling north for an hour or so around ‘Bird Island’ then additional exploring; \n(4) Starting at Anvil Flats Access (~ 10 miles south of Buckboard) and exploring the west side of the lake both north and south of the put-in; \n(5) Putting in at the Lucence Access (~ 25 miles south of Buckboard and in Utah!)\, paddling to the east side of the lake then north of Antelope Flats to a big cove not easily seen from the main lake. In addition\, there are cool rocks sticking out of the water on the west side that we have never paddled behind. Alternatively\, paddle south though the ‘horseshoe” (there is a cut that makes this a nice loop but that cutoff is probably dry). Note that Lucerne is in Utah so remember your Utah AIS form! \nPermits and Inspections: Wyoming Boat Inspection and Wyo AIS Sticker. Utah AIS certificate. Utah has a form to fill out that needs to be left on the car’s dash for days we paddle on the Utah side. Also\, we have a National Parks Senior Pass that we use to park at any of the Flaming Gorge access points\, marinas\, etc. since they all have a fee\, \nHuman Waste: We use poop tubes while on the lake. There are outhouses at various access points each day and trash receptacles where we can dump tube contents if needed\, \nDrinking Water: Potable water is available at the Buckboard campground. \nWind and Waves!  Flaming Gorge can get windy!  Although we keep an eye on the weather and do not plan to paddle in high wind\, it is often necessary to paddle for an hour or so in moderate winds (8 mph – 12 mph) to a good campsite \nShort breaks: We tend to take only short breaks while paddling\, including short lunch breaks. \nWind and Start Time:  Our preference is not get up early. But in 2022\, after 2 days where a strong wind came up early (like by 10)\, we started getting up at 5:30\, no cooked breakfasts (cold-brews for me) and were done by noon. This does result in there being long down-time in the afternoon but it was better than fighting the wind. In other years\, we never had wind till mid-to-late afternoon.  We have had severe thunder storms in the afternoon. Hard to say what 2026 will be like. \nOther Hazards: Rattlesnakes! \nMaps:  Trails Illustrated #704 (Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area; \nThis is an RMCC trip\, so ACA and other rules apply. \n\nCamping options: There is a campground at Buckboard with reservations available or First Come – First Serve.  There is also an option to remote camp on July 10 near Buckboard.  (Gary stayed quite close to the marina a couple of years ago.  And we have camped at the end of Road 11 a few times.  (I’ve gotten down there with my Forester.) The camping there is quite pleasant and about 5 miles from the highway and about 5 miles north of Buckboard. \nInspections: Wyoming AIS Stickers\, Utah AIS certificate\, and WY inspection. \nACA: Since this is a Rocky Mountain Canoe Club trip\, ACA membership (annual or event) is required. \nOther Hazards: Rattlesnakes!   \nMaps:  Trails Illustrated #704 (Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. \nHuman Waste: We need to carry out our own waste. \nSafe Paddling\nTo keep our events both fun and safe for everyone\, each participant needs to have the skills and the equipment appropriate to the waters and the weather.  Each participant is the first judge of whether they have the skills and equipment necessary\, but trip coordinators have the final say. SUMMARY:Rendezvous 2026
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, July 17 to Sunday July 19\, 2026\nFor more information an to register for the 2026 Rendezvous\, see the RMCC Annual Rendezvous flyer for 2026. \nThis is our annual event moved up to July instead of our usual August dates. \nRadium Campground Group Site B is reserved from July 17 to July 19.  Group Site A is reserved from July 17 to July 20 for those folks who want to leave on Monday.  For those that haven’t attended this event before\, our Club Rendezvous is a fun filled weekend near the head waters of the Colorado River with wonderful day paddling trips and many social activities that provide great opportunities to meet and bond with fellow club members.  For many\, this is a real season highlight. \n\n \n\nWe hope to be on the water Friday through Monday — water\, weather and boaters willing.  A revised flyer will be available soon with more details. \n\nNote: this is a dry camp so there is NO WATER and NO ELECTRIC hookups at camp sites.  Make sure to bring adequate water for your needs and have all your devices charged up\, although a solar powered camper van can provide a charge up if needed.\n\nIt is way too early to make any predictions about the expected flow during Rendezvous.  As always\, we’ll hope for reasonable water levels for fun and safe paddling for all abilities this year. Check the Colorado flows at Kremmling station for changes as you consider boating at Rendezvous. Class 1\, 2\,3 runs are expected.  Bring a helmet. \nRegistration is not required\, but it makes life much easier for the organizers!  \nThis will be an ACA waiver event.  Again\, details to come.  ACA is working out some bugs in the new system.  If you do an event waiver online\, be sure to use the event name Rendezvous 2026. \nIf you have any questions or need more information\, contact Craig or Nita Flora at craigflora2000@yahoo.com or nflora631@yahoo.com
