The river trip starts at Horton Lake, 610 km northwest of Yellowknife – it is a 300 km flight from Norman Wells where we got on the float plane; and is 60 km north of Great Bear lake which we saw on our flight out and back. We did about 280 km of the river to our takeout at Whaleman Lake – this is a very remote area and the float planes only land on Horton and Whaleman lakes, and on the Arctic coast at the river’s mouth.
