Barring any late summer t-storms, floating the Colorado River doesn’t get much easier than this! Canoes & sea, touring, or recreational kayaks will likely be best in the low river flow I anticipate we’ll have in late August.
For those who wish to car camp, we’ll meet Sunday evening (8/24) at Dewey Bridge Campground, 32 miles upstream from Moab on SR128. We’ll try to snag one of the group campsites with shade shelter as we did last year when all 3 were open. The camp area has vault toilets but no water. Camping fees will be shared. For those who prefer, there is also dispersed camping nearby & numerous hotels in Moab, 45 minutes drive.
Monday morning (8/25) we’ll gather at the Dewey Bridge Campground boat launch. From there we’ll drive to Cisco Landing where we’ll launch for a 16-mile flatwater paddle thru scenic desert & remote ranchland back to Dewey Bridge.
Tuesday morning (8/26) we’ll launch from Dewey Bridge to enjoy 8-miles of Class I water thru spectacular red rock canyons to the take-out at Lower Onion Creek Campground. Likely we’ll lunch at the take-out, pack up & start for home early afternoon.
This is an ACA sanctioned outing that requires either ACA membership or $10/person insurance fee. In addition, all boaters must complete the 2025 Utah mussel-aware boater course available through Utah Division of Wildlife.
