This will be a joint trip of Rocky Mountain Canoe Club and Missouri Whitewater Association (MWA) members. It will consist of several Class II day paddles on the Taylor River followed by several day paddles on the Arkansas River. Paddlers will car camp. While still in the planning stages, with details will follow, below is a general sense of the trip.
The trip would begin at Lottis Creek Group Campground on or about the evening of August 17.
For the next three days we would divide into groups according to skill levels, preference and group size and paddle various sections of the Taylor River as appropriate.
After paddling the third day we would drive over to the Arkansas to a campground, as yet to be determined, and spend the next three days doing the same activity on sections of the Arkansas. The required water releases for rafting end each year on or about August 18. so runs on the Fractions, Brown’s Canyon and several easier Arkansas River reaches will be more approachable.
This will be a great opportunity for building relationships between members of the two clubs, both on the water and in camp in the evening. Missouri boaters are always interested in paddling in Colorado and knowing people who enjoy the same level of boating. And, RMCC people are interested in the Ozark streams of Missouri and Arkansas which the MWA folks know well and paddle frequently.
This will be an ACA trip. Contact Chris K. if you are interested in joining. cskelly1022@gmail.com
