RMCC events should be fun and safe. To that end, we sponsor a lot of different trips, catering to different skill levels, interests, and availability. Volunteer trip coordinators provide an opportunity for paddling as a group for both ease of logistics and safety in numbers (not to mention camaraderie!), and can help paddlers to stretch themselves to reach to their next level of paddling. But to keep our events both fun and safe for everyone, each participant needs to have the skills and the equipment appropriate to the waters and the weather. Each participant is the first judge of whether they have the skills and equipment necessary, but trip coordinators have the final say.
We have recently reviewed ACA requirements regarding skills and equipment AND our own recommendations for what maintains as safe a paddling experience as possible. Thanks to Karen Amundson, Bill Ashworth, Lynne Carpenter, Eric Hermann, Debbie Hinde, Alyse Oxenford, and Jeff Oxenford for working on this document.
If you want to paddle with RMCC this year, please read the RMCC Requirements and Recommendations for ACA-Sanctioned Events. And then sign up for trips!
