This will be a Flatwater, Exploratory, Day Trip (participants can make arrangements to arrive and car camp the night before at the State Park). Approximately a 3 hour drive from the Longmont area.
Boat Types: sea kayaks, recreational kayaks and canoes are welcome.
Tentative Itinerary: Monday, 12 May 2025: Drive down and setup camp at the State Park. *Participants who choose to camp Monday night must make their own camping reservations at the state park. $36.00 / night .
Tuesday, 13 May 2025: Break camp; drive to The Swallows Access (the meet-up point) and paddle the west end of the lake (where the Arkansas River comes in). The focus will be paddling and exploring the delta, looking at birds, etc. Expect only short breaks (assuming we can find a spot to park and get out of the boats). Since this is an exploratory trip, we may not find a nice lunch spot, so have water and snacks handy.
Special Notes: CSWA (Colorado State Wildlife Area) fishing/hunting/recreation license/pass would be required to paddle in the west end. These are around $11 for seniors for an annual pass.
Daily State Park Fee: If you didn’t purchase a KCW (Keep Colorado Wild) stamp along with your vehicle registration, there will be a state parks daily fee.
Driving Directions for North Entrance: Take I-25 to Pueblo. Turn west on US Hwy 50 (Exit 101). Drive 7 miles to McCulloch Blvd. Turn south and go 4 miles to Nichols Road. Turn south and go 1 mile to the north park entrance.
