Upcoming Events for April and May

Hi RMCC Paddlers!

We’re kicking off the 2014 season!  We’ve been busy lining up events. Check out the calendar and see what’s planned! Thanks to all of you who responded to our request to tell us what you want to do.  If you don’t see your preferences on the schedule, we’re working on it.  And let us know if you’d like to be a TC.

If you see a trip you’d like to join, contact the Trip Coordinator now to let them know you’re interested. This helps the TCs plan ahead. Please note that all of RMCC’s on-the-water events are ACA-sanctioned, so participants either need an ACA membership, or a $5 per person per event ACA fee.

Looking Ahead to April and May

Two Pool Sessions Remain.  Upcoming dates are April 6th and 27th.

Find the details on the website schedule. Contact Karen McKean with any questions at 303-989-4833 or wwcanoe@comcast.net. $9.25 per person, 10 am to 1 pm. George Meyers Pool, 7900 Carr Dr., Arvada.  Note that this isn’t an ACA-sanctioned event so there is no ACA fee requirement.  These dates are subject to change if there’s a pool swim meet.

April 26thArkansas River Day Trip – Florence to Pueblo Reservoir

Are you a solid Class II paddler? This 20-mile trip might offer cold water and strainers, so more experienced paddlers can try this exploratory club trip. Camp 2 nights at Indian Springs Ranch Campground near Penrose. If the trip goes well, we might do it again in August for less experienced paddlers. Contact Karen Amundson (canoekarena@msn.com) if you’re interested.

May 24th -26thNiobrara River, NE

This is an easy, kids-friendly Class I river, and one of America’s premier scenic heritage waterways. Put in near Valentine on Saturday and run the river on Saturday and Sunday, with car camping at Smith Falls State Park. On Monday, there’s an optional Class II run. Contact Bill Ashworth at washwort@comcast.net to sign up!

May 24th -26thSan Rafael River Little Grand Canyon, UT

Run the San Rafael River from Fuller Bottom to the Swinging Bridge near Green River, UT.  This is a Class II run due to possible obstacles and remoteness.  We’ll see petroglyphs, ruins and petrified logs. If the San Rafael doesn’t have enough water, we’ll run the White River below Rangely to the Enron wells takeout.  Contact Karen Amundson (canoekarena@msn.com) to sign up.
