State of Club 2015 Annual Report and January 23rd Permit Party annoucement

Please find the annual President’s Report which was distributed at the Nov 21 Annual Mtg in Centennial.

The annual Permit Party will be held in Boulder on January 23rd. Look for more details in the coming weeks.

RMCC State of the Paddling Union 2015:

Thank you! Thank you! Thanks you!

  • Most importantly, to all the Trip Coordinators (a record seventeen) whose efforts made all our Club trips and events possible.
  • To Candace Winkle for generously opening her home for the Jan Permit party and  likewise Karen Amundson for the Nov Annual Mtg).
  • To Anne Fiore for making our transition to the new website as smooth as possible for our members (who have no idea of magnitude of her labors behind the scenes).
  • To our Rendezvous Dutch oven competition coordinators: Carol Duecker and Anne Fiore.
  • To all our valiant club officers who have agreed to stand for re-election: Doug Hurcomb as Quartermaster, Kathryn Mutz as Treasurer, and Anne Fiore as Webmaster and your humble servant as President.
  • To our outgoing Scheduler Carol Duecker for 4 years of extraordinary service.
  • And finally to our in-coming Scheduler Kit Williams.

Trips and Events

Once again, this year I’m delighted to announce that the number of and participation in our scheduled outings remains strong and growing. To wit:

Year No of outings & events No. of participants No. to Trip Coordinators
2011 11 185 6

2013 24 303 14
2014 18 210 9
2015 27 243 17

Here’s a summary to the outing and events, no. of participants, and coordinators:

April: Boat Rigging and Packing Class (8, B. Ashworth); Colorado Ruby Horsethief (8, C. Winkle); Macintosh Lake – cancelled (A. Fiore); S. Platte Kersey to Kuner – cancelled high water (A. Fiore)

Oct: Green Gates of Lodore – cancelled low turnout (B. Rivers)

Nov: Fall potluck and annual elections (30, K. Amundson)

I think we achieved a good balance of outing types this year but didn’t get the increased number of day events that I’d hope for – a good goal for next year! The 2015 numbers:  day outings/classes (6); weekend outings/classes (14); extended outings (5); meetings (2). It’s worth noting that the number of participants was strong despite seven trip cancellations.

Instruction

We were fortunate to have Poudre Paddler’s excellent instruction corps provide our Basic Canoeing again this year. Thanks Eric, Mikel, and Deb from Poudre (who are all also RMCC members)!  Our third Canoe Rigging and Packing class was well received and well attended and will be repeated in coming years. We’re looking for input from members on additional classes we might offer next year – look for a survey between Thanksgiving and New Years

Membership

Our membership dipped slightly this year and when secondary members (generally spouses) are added, we have over 175 folks on our rolls as paid up members.

No. of households:   2011 (100)         2012 (90)           2013 (112)         2014(113)          2015 (108)

Looking forward

In a stunning and unexpected reversal of expectations, the current officers of the club plus Kit Williams as Scheduler, were affirmed at the annual meeting at Karen A’s.  I want to personally thank all the officers for their continuing service and as returning president, I look forward to a great El Nino-fueled season on the water with lots of trips of all levels and venues and a strong training program.

Keep on paddlin’
