RMCC – spring canoeing classes and ACA lake clean-up announced

Two exciting announcements:

1) Poudre Paddlers has announced their spring training classes and they are open to RMCC members (with some constraints). I’ve linked their flyer. Note that PP members get first choice on these classes and RMCC members can sign-up after April 1. However, in year’s past, we’ve rarely had the classes completely fill.  Contact Bill Ashworth ([email protected]) asap to get on the RMCC waiting list. This will be the only on-river class offered this year.
2) Rocky Mt Sea Kayak Club is sponsoring a lake clean up in the Denver area on Saturday April 23. See the details below. Contact Clark Strickland of RMSKC if you are interested( [email protected])
ACA Paddle Green Earth Day

DescriptionWHERE: Chatfield State Park, Kingfisher Parking Area. Turn south (right) after entering the Chatfield SP and then go approximately 1.8 miles to Kingfisher parking lot on the north (left). HOW: Come prepared to pick up floating trash along the shores of Chatfield Reservoir. Bring heavy gloves, a black traffic trash bag or other means of collecting trash. We will have a pick-up launch to serve as a tender for our efforts. The motorboat will pick up what we collect from the shore and shallow water. Bring your own drinks and lunch. We’ll eat at the Kingfisher parking lot. Plan for cold water. You’ll be leaning over the side of your boat to pick up bottles, cans and floating plastic – to be safe, you must be able to get back into your boat unassisted or with help. WHO: Clark Strickland is trip leader. Please let him know if you are interested in this activity. WHY: The American Canoe Association (ACA) is sponsoring Paddle Green Earth Day in late April, 2016. If at least 10 RMSKC members participate in the clean-up, RMSKC will be entered in a drawing to receive two 6-hour instruction sessions from ACA instructors. We might use this to subsidize our Instructor Training program if we should be so lucky as to win. HOW MUCH: There is a State Parks admission fee at Chatfield State Park. No charge for hand carry launch.
