Canoe Rigging Class and other RMCC activities


For anyone interested in canoe camping, the always informative Canoe Rigging and Packing Class is happening this Saturday, June 10, from 1:00-4:00 in Boulder. Learn how to make every inch of your canoe’s limited space count when packing for an overnight or a multi-week excursion. Contact Bill Ashworth at washwort@comcast.net to register. Then use your new found knowledge to pack up your canoe for one or more of the following canoeing adventures.

Glendo to Guernsey: North Platte River in Wyoming, July 15-July 16

Canoe the North Platte River from Glendo Reservoir almost to Guernsey Reservoir. This is a fun, day long paddling trip that is a Class I+ with one Class II section of standing waves that can be avoided. RMCC’s Annual Rendezvous on the Colorado River, August 5 & 6

Colorado: Meander Canyon in Canyonlands, August 12-16

Paddle this 50 mile stretch of class I water with spectacular views along the Colorado River canyon, meeting the Green river at the confluence in Canyonlands National park. Missouri National Recreational River, August 13-18

Quetico Provincial Park, Canada, Flexible schedule from August 29 – September 10

This spectacular Quetico Provincial Park trip has a flexible schedule that fits people with limited time who want to fly in for a 5 day (August 29-September 2) or a 7 day trip (September 4-10) or for those people who wish to participate in the full 13 day back country wilderness canoe experience (August 29-10) with a day in the middle for a hot shower, re-supply and even a restaurant meal. Colorado river – Ruby/Horsethief Canyons, September 23-24

Join RMCC as we canoe the Colorado River from Loma, CO to the Westwater boat ramp through Ruby and Horsethief Canyons that is mostly class I water with one class II rapid. Gunnison River, September 30-October 1 (with an optional extra day Oct 2)

The Escalante to Whitewater section of the Gunnison River can be run most any month of the year and each season has its own attraction.  Our Fall trip will offer stunning canyon views, warm days and cool nights, and a moderate river flow (early Oct averages 1300 cfs). The 26 miles between Escalante Bridge (near Delta CO on Highway 50) and the Whitewater take-out is mostly Class I and low Class II with one bigger Class II rapid below Escalante Bridge that can be lined or portaged.   • The Wyoming 5 Rivers Trip has been cancelled due to high water levels but will be offered next year in July.
