Upcoming April and May Activities


A lot of canoe related opportunities are happening in April and May including several exciting early season trips and two classes: Essentials of Canoeing, and RMCC Rigging and Packing. South Platte: Brighton to Ft Lupton

April 7, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

A beginner friendly 9 mile river trip lined with cotton woods and hosting numerous birds and other wildlife. Sign up by emailing trip coordinator Mat Bozek at matbozekx@gmail.com.

 

Essentials of Canoeing: flatwater and moving water

April 28-29

A day and a half class covering all of the basics of negotiating both flat and moving water. Cost is $40 for the both days or $25 for just the flatwater class. Space is limited and filling fast so contact Lynne Carpenter at lynnecarpenter@gmail.com for further information or to register.

 

Mcintosh Lake, Longmont

May 5, 9:30 am

Join RMCC for a day of paddling at the City of Longmont’s McIntosh Lake with a spectacular view of Longs Peak. Be at the boat ramp by 9:30 am. To sign up contact trip coordinator Anne Fiore at anne_fiore@yahoo.com.

 

RMCC Rigging and Packing Class

May 5, 1:00 – 3:00 pm

Learn how to set up and pack your canoe for weekend and multi-day camping trips. This is a dry land exercise taught in Boulder by Bill Ashworth. Contact Bill at washwort@gmail.com or 720-352-6465 to register.

 

White River, near Meeker

May 11-13

This 3 day, 2 night trip winds through beautiful canyons and peaceful pasture lands. This is a solid class II run with tight corners and the need to maneuver your canoe around strainers. To sign up contact trip coordinator Mat Bozek at matbozekx@gmail.com.

 

Niobrara River, Memorial Day weekend

May 26-28

An easy family friendly, class I run down a beautiful stretch of one of America’s premier scenic heritage waterways where you will see many waterfalls, birds and other wildlife, hardwood forests and the resident buffalo herd. Contact Kathryn Mutz at Kathryn.mutz@colorado.edu or 303-499-1092.

 

Pool Practice at Meyers Pool

April 15, April 22, and May 6, 10:00-1:00

There are only 3 more open pool sessions at George J. Meyers swimming pool, 7900 Carr Drive in Arvada, for canoes, sea kayaks, and stand up paddle boards. The entry fee is $10 per person. This is a great place to hone old skills while learning new ones in a warm, safe environment. There is no registration necessary, drop in anytime between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.
