15th Almost Annual Joint Spring Paddle

Due to bad weather the Joint Spring Paddle has been postponed to April 6. Join members from the Rocky Mountain Canoe Club, Poudre Paddlers Club, Flatwater Frogs, Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak Club, and High Country River Rafters on the Brighton to Fort Lupton section of the South Platte River to celebrate the 2019 paddling season. Although the original trip down the South Platte has been changed, it is still a Class I family friendly paddle. Registration is not required, and non-members are welcome to join. To help you plan for your upcoming canoe or camping adventures, several of RMCC’s experienced members will share their hard won knowledge on how to cook and pack tasty camp meals demonstrating the following topics: how to pack fresh items to last through an entire trip; cooking with a Dutch Oven; baking on a camp stove; assembling dehydrated meals and improving freeze dried ready-made meals; and demonstrating various water and food storage methods. Everyone is welcome. Participants will receive a digital copy of delicious camp recipes submitted by RMCC members. South Platte River from Brighton to Fort Lupton
April 13, 2019 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
A beginner friendly 9 mile trip that is lined with cottonwoods hosting numerous birds and other wildlife…a nice way to begin the paddling season. There is one mandatory portage at a dam and one boat chute drop early on that may be run or portaged depending on conditions. Missouri Sampler: Current, Jacks Fork and 11 Point Rivers
April 20-29, 2019
All 3 of these beautiful rivers are located in the Ozarks of south central Missouri. They are spring fed and crystal clear. Dispersed camping is allowed on these rivers. Colorado River: Ruby-Horsethief
April 26-28, 2019
This section of the Colorado River runs through beautiful red rock canyons and has many hiking opportunities. If the weather and water levels are reasonable this float is appropriate for relatively inexperienced canoeists and boaters, most of the section is class I water with one class II rapid. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area including great blue herons, bald eagles, peregrine falcons, mule deer, and desert bighorn sheep.
