LOANER EQUIPMENT – Collecting and Loaning

If you read the recent post Requirements and Recommendations for SAFELY Paddling with RMCC, you know that paddling with the club REQUIRES that you use specific safety equipment for various venue and weather conditions on RMCC trips.

The club already has firepans, a bug tent, and portable toilets to lend – see the Club Equipment page.

And trip coordinators have long tried to lend equipment to a new boater or one that is trying to take their paddling to the next level or river stretch that requires equipment that they do not yet own.

But we would like to:

  • Increase our inventory to include additional loaner equipment, and
  • Start a list of members who have equipment that they would consider loaning on a case-by-case basis.  This list would be available to trip coordinators, but NOT advertised/posted to the membership.

Need to clean out that garage or basement?

Just never use that float bag that fit the canoe you sold years ago?

Just never use that PFD that fit you 30 years ago?

Bought an extra thingamajig because it was a great price?

Items of Interest:  Just about any boating item could be helpful, but we are specifically interested in donations OR offers to loan:

  • PFDs
  • Helmets
  • Flotation/displacement bags; pump
  • Paddles
  • Throw bags
  • Straps or carabiners (Get serious!  Does anyone have too many?)
  • Floating rope for painters
  • Any other safety equipment (Z-drag parts?)

Loaner boats:  It would be helpful to know if you have a boat you are willing to loan (on a case-by-case basis) or a tandem you are willing to share (on a particular trip), but we have no place to store extra boats.  Please consider offering to loan/share a boat if a trip coordinator puts out a call for a specific trip.

If you have a piece of equipment to donate or lend:  Please contact Kathryn at gvmutz@gmail.com

If you are the boater that needs a piece of equipment:

  1. Check the Club Equipment page to see if the Quartermaster has that item to lend.
  2. Ask the appropriate trip coordinator – before showing up at the event! – if an item might be available for loan.
  3. Be prepared to pick up the loaner item yourself to take it to the event.  The trip coordinators have enough to do without wrangling equipment.

Any questions, comments or donations?  Please contact Kathryn at gvmutz@gmail.com
