Repairing and Outfitting Canoes

If you can’t get ON the water this winter, at least you can prepare your canoes FOR the water.  And the two essential ingredients are the parts and the expertise to install/replace those parts.

What we have:

  • RMCC has a few new and used canoe parts (see Available Parts) leftover from our 2021 loaner canoe repair project and thanks to Randy Purrett for his new parts donations.  All reasonable offers for these parts will contribute to our kitty for buying safety equipment for our Club Equipment loan program.
  • Volunteers to help you fit and install parts:
    • Henry Williams is willing to help size, refinish (if necessary), and install thwarts, yokes, and seats;
    • Tom Ging is willing to help folks repair their own deteriorated canoe seat or to reweb the refinished RMCC seat frames;
    • Bill Ashworth is willing to advise/help secure items in hulls – D-rings, flotation bags, knee pads, etc.

What we need: Additional volunteers as consultants on canoe maintenance, repair and outfitting projects:

  • Can you offer one-on-one advice or help to someone (live, by phone or internet – at your convenience) on a specific canoe storage, maintenance or repair project?
  • Would you like to contribute to a live-demonstration or Zoom presentation on one or more topics for an RMCC audience?  [It might be a one-off presentation or a series sequel to our 2019 Canoeing Cuisine Workshop]

Topics of interest include:

  • Adding skid plates
  • Protecting canoes from deterioration
  • Repairing deteriorated or damaged hulls – Royalex to T-formex to fiberglass
  • Canoe storage – saw horses to pulley system
  • Canoe transport – Car tops to trailers, Do’s/Don’ts, ropes/straps, PVC and pool toys
  • And many more . . .
