With the unanimous approval of the RMCC Executive Board, we are happy to announce that we have a new President to follow Kathryn Mutz whose term ended in 2025.
Ron Bockhaus has been paddling with the Club for many years and has earned the friendship and admiration of many of our paddlers. We are delighted to welcome Ron to the Board as our new President.
Here’s Ron’s letter of introduction
Rocky Mountain Canoe Club
February 1, 2026
Greetings Rocky Mountain Canoe Club!
My name is Ron Bockhaus, and like you I am a club member. From 2012 I’ve enjoyed many of the of the trips and educational opportunities sponsored by our club. Most importantly, I’ve enjoyed interacting with you, the members, and your love for paddle sports in the great outdoors. Pushing off from shore on some river or lake still excites me after many years, as I’m sure it does for you.
I’m introducing myself to you for now I have the honor of serving as your club president. Several club members whom I know and respect, encouraged me to consider this new role in the club. After considerable thought and fruitful discussion, I have agreed to take up the responsibilities of president. As with every non-profit organization, everyone’s help is needed. I know I will be asking
for help as do my best to make the club welcoming, safe and enjoyable.
Some things about me.
- I pronounce my last name, bock-us
- I’m married to Susan and we have two adult children
- We live in Estes Park, CO
- I’m retired after 38 years in Christian ministry
- We moved to Colorado in 2011 after many years in Minnesota
- I learned to paddle a canoe while guiding youth groups in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area

- The beauty and mystery of wild places continues to excite me
I borrow from Sigurd Olson, who, borrowed from Kipling
Something lost behind the ranges
Something hidden, go and find it.
Go and look behind the ranges,
Something lost behind the ranges,
Lost and waiting for you. Go.
Let’s Go!
Ron Bockhaus
