Updated Details! Joint Clean-up Paddle with Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak Club. Union Reservoir, Longmont. Monday, May 22.

May 22, 2023

Updated Details Below!

Mark your calendars for a joint cleanup paddle with Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak Club (RMSKC) at Union Reservoir.

This is an ACA paddle, so a person who is not an ACA member will be required to purchase an ACA event membership for $10.00 and to complete an ACA Waiver & Release of Liability form (adult or minor).   Each participant will also sign a City of Longmont waiver, provided on site the day of the event.

The City of Longmont has agreed to waive their entrance and boating fees for participants.

Along with cleaning up, paddlers will have an opportunity to view the great selection of birds found at Union, including yellow-headed black birds, coots, grebes, eagles, herons, pelicans, osprey, and red-tailed hawks.  Its a great place to paddle, especially with the fee being waived.  It is located east of County Line Road in Longmont.
Date:               Monday, May 22, 2023
Directions:      From Boulder or Longmont, travel east on CO 119 to East County Line Road.  (The new UCHealth Hospital is on the Northwest corner of this intersection.).  At the traffic light, turn left (north).  You will go over a set of railroad tracks.  County Road 26 will be the next right.  Distance from CO 119 to CR 26 is about 3/4 mile.  Take a right, travel east for about 1/2 mile, then turn north (left) into Union Reservoir.

Start Time:      Meeting time is 9:15, Ready to paddle at 10 AM.
Lunch:             How about if we plan to meet back at the put-in by noon or so for a group (bring-your-own) lunch. Some participants may decide to go back out and paddle/bird/collect more trash.  This may be weather dependent.

For participants, the City of Longmont will waive the entrance and boat fee.

The booth person will know we are coming but will not have a list of people but rather will be relying on a placard (to be emailed to participants) which you will need to print out and place on your dashboard.  I will hang out at the entrance area till 9:20 or so, in case something comes up.  In addition, I will have my cell phone with me so please call 720-210-8858

Each participant will need to sign a City of Longmont Waiver.  (to be emailed to participants) which you will need to print out, sign it, and bring it with you.

PFD required (A no brainer for our group).

We are expecting 8 – 20 participants, but Union can be busy so please carpool if possible.

The city will provide trash bags and neoprene gloves, which I will be picking up from the volunteer coordinator and bringing along.
