10th Annual South Platte River Clean-up
→DATE: April 25th (Saturday)
→HOURS: Registration starts at 10am / On The Water from 11am – 3pm / After Party from 4pm – 7pm at Denver Beer Co.
→ABOUT:
For the past several years, over 200 rafters, kayakers, cyclists and pedestrians have come together and successfully removed over 2 TONS of garbage from Denver’s South Platte River corridor. This year, Colorado Whitewater, in partnership with American Whitewater, Down River Equipment, and Confluence Kayaks is presenting the 10th annual South Platte River Clean-up, and we need your help to make it the MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR YET!
→EVENT DETAILS:
This is an all volunteer event to pick up trash along the South Platte River. This year, we will be splitting the clean-up into two sections to cover over 10 miles of the South Platte river as it flows through the City. Participants will have the option of choosing which section they would like to cover.
Section 1: Starting from Centennial Park, near the Union Ave ballfields (just East of Federal & West of Santa Fe on Union Ave.) paddlers will float to Grant Frontier Park, where restrooms, a dumpster, and shuttle drivers will be staged.
Registration / Put-In (Starting at 10 am): Section 1 will start at Centennial Park, near the Union Ave ballfields (just East of Federal & West of Santa Fe on Union Ave.)
Take-out: Grant Frontier Park is located just south of Evans on South Platte River Drive East (2190 S Platte River Dr, Denver, CO, 80223)
Section 2: Starting at Habitat Park (610 S Jason St, Denver, CO 80223), paddlers will cover the next 5 miles of the S. Platte River and Bike Path finishing at Fishback Park (818 Water St, Denver, CO 80211) or further downstream at City of Cuernavaca Park. There’s no available parking at Fishback Park, but there is overflow parking in the area between the Aquarium and REI. City of Cuernavaca Park Downtown, where there is ample parking (even for trailers), is an alternate take-out that allows for a run through Confluence Park on the South Platte.
Registration / Put-In (Starting at 10 am): Section 2 will start at Habitat Park (610 S Jason St, Denver, CO 80223)
Take-out: Fishback Park (818 Water St, Denver, CO 80211) or further downstream at City of Cuernavaca Park.
This year, we have a private room reserved for all participants at the Denver Beer Company from 4-7pm. Local food trucks will be on site while we swap stories from the day, and refuel after a great day giving back to the river.
→SHUTTLE INFO:
Shuttles will be available at each of the Event Take-outs (Grant Frontier and Cuernavaca Parks).
