More Summer SUNsations

Summer may be half over but there are still many fabulous RMCC trips left on this year’s event calendar including: two scenic Wyoming floats, the annual Rendezvous with fabulous food and fun trips down the Colorado River, exciting whitewater adventure on the Arkansas river, a chance to experience the life of voyagers of old in Canada’s Quetico Provincial Park, and a gorgeous fall trip down the red rocks of Ruby & Horsethief Canyons.

Glendo to Guernsey: North Platte River in Wyoming, July 16 – July 17

RMCC members and guests are welcome to float the North Platte River from Glendo Reservoir almost to Guernsey Reservoir. This is a fun, day long class 1+ paddling trip although with the higher water levels this summer, participants should be experienced Class II paddlers, especially for the Class II section of standing waves. Helmets required here. The float is on Saturday, July 16.  We will be camping in Two Moon Campground in Glendo State Park on Friday night before the trip as well as Saturday night for those attending an optional potluck. Full details can be found at https://rockymountaincanoeclub.net/event/glendo-to-guernsey-north-platte-river-in-wyoming/  Contact Bill and Kathy Ashworth; [email protected]; 720-352-6456 to sign up for the trip. Wyoming invasive species sticker on your boat is required.

North Platte River: Saratoga to I-80, July 22 – July 24

Join RMCC for this Class I run through beautiful Wyoming landscape full of birds and wildlife, just a half-day drive from Denver. This is a 3 day, 2 night canoe camping trip. We’ll complete the car shuttle Friday morning and begin paddling in the afternoon, camping at Pick Bridge that evening. The next day we will be paddling most of the day with a stop at the Overland trail cemetery/historical site 8. We paddle Sunday morning and plan to take out between noon and 1:00, allowing people time to return home Sunday afternoon or take a leisurely soak in the nearby Saratoga hot springs.  A Wyoming invasive species sticker on your boat is required. Please contact Judy Moisey-Asay at [email protected] or call 303-229-2223 to register for this trip. https://rockymountaincanoeclub.net/event/north-platte-river-saratoga-80/

Arkansas River: Salida area, August 13 & 14

Explore the beautiful Arkansas River near Salida through 2 individual day trips through exciting class II and III water. Although some of the rapids have long continuous sections, this will not be the classic/bigger rafting/kayaking sections. Participants can choose to paddle one or both days. Please contact Lyn Berry at [email protected] or (719)395-3887 if you are interested in this trip. Check out https://rockymountaincanoeclub.net/event/arkansas-river-salida-area/ for more information.

Quetico Provincial Park, September 6 – September 13

Quetico is classic canoe country. The heartland of the Voyageurs. The general thrust of this trip is to paddle from the northwest corner of Quetico to the northeast corner through spectacular lakes with names like Beaverhouse, Quetico and Kasakokwag. The suggested route is a fairly leisurely 90 mile paddle with numerous portages. We also anticipate two lay-over days for swimming, fishing, exploring—or hunkering down if there is wind or rain. Go to https://rockymountaincanoeclub.net/event/quetico-provincial-park/ for more details.  If you are interested in this trip please contact Ken Wenker by email [email protected] or by phone at 719-310-5232.
