2018 Almost Annual Spring Kickoff Paddling Trip

March 25, 2018

2018 — 14th Almost Annual Spring Kickoff Paddling Trip: Lonetree State Wildlife Area

Sunday March 25th, ready to launch at 10:00 am

Participating organizations: Rocky Mountain Canoe Club ¤ Flatwater Frogs ¤ Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak Club ¤ Poudre Paddlers

Join us for a casual lake paddle to get the season started.  This trip is suitable for novices and families.

Our traditional season opener on the South Platte River from Evans to Kersey/Kuner is not yet accessible.  Although we hear that our traditional put-in at Riverside Park in Evans, Colorado should be available for us next year.  But Colorado waters are calling.  Join us for a morning paddle at the Lonetree State Wildlife Area.  Facilities at the reservoir include a boat ramp, restrooms, shade shelters, and hiking trails.

  • Bring your friends!  Bring a snack or beverage to share after the paddle
  • Pre-registration is not necessary. Membership is not required, though we encourage you to take this opportunity to join our organizations.
  • Meet at the boat ramp on the west side of the reservoir (near the south end) – ready to launch at 10:00 a.m.

From Berthoud, go north on HWY 287 approximately 2 1/2 miles to Campion, turn west (left) on County Road 14 to County Road 21 (Lonetree Drive) and then one mile south (left) to the entrance.

  • This trip could possibly be cancelled due to really bad weather. Please check with your club coordinator (list below) the day before for the trip status. We have not scheduled a snow/rain date.
  • We will have a short launch meeting for everyone at 10:00 am at the boat ramp. Please unload boats and equipment promptly, and hand in waivers to your club coordinator (see below).
  • Bring: Suitable canoe, kayak or inflatable. Also ESPECIALLY recommended is warm clothing, spare change of clothing, lunch, water, leak proof rubber boots and/or change of shoes, sunglasses, sun screen, sun hat, dry bag.  Make sure children are well dressed for COLD water and air.  Bring extra clothes and shoes for children!

Safety Notices

  • WAIVERS & PFD’s REQUIRED. There are normal boating risks involved; thus signed waivers for club members and PFD’s (life vests) are required. Please Note:  This is NOT an ACA sanctioned event.

Help us out by printing your waiver off your club website and bringing it to the meeting place.

  • Hypothermia. The water can be quite cold on a spring trip like this. One of the best defenses against hypothermia in case of a tip-over is to travel with one or more companion boats, so that you can quickly get assistance to dry land and a change of clothes.
