Chatfield Paddlefest

June 13 @ 9:00 am5:00 pm

June 13, 2026

The Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak Club (RMSKC) has scheduled its traditional Paddlefest Potluck at the Marina Point Group Shelter. This year will be a joint event with RMCC because RMSKC is disbanding and many of its members are joining RMCC. This is an opportunity to welcome new kayaking members and paddle on the reservoir. RMSKC let each other try out boats on Chatfield Reservoir. Bring your canoes and duckies and such to introduce your favorite boats to sea kayakers.  Marina Point group picnic area is located west of the South Boat Ramp area. Here is map: https://rockymountaincanoeclub.net/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/chatfield-map.pdf

Trip Organizer will be Leslie Taylor (LeslieCopelandT@gmail.com).  You can reserve your spot either by emailing Leslie or registering at the RMSKC website RMSKC.org.  https://rmskc.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=4091&club_id=287975&item_id=2861040

Pot Luck

Leslie will grill burgers and hot dogs for you if you ask her to.  Bring meat, salads or desserts or whatever to share.  Bring your own plates and utensils.

ACA Liability Insurance

This is a trip with ACA liability insurance.  If you are a current ACA member on June 13, 2026, you are all set. Non-ACA members who plan to get on the water need to purchase an “Event Membership” and pay the ACA’s $10 fee.

You can print (NEW ACA WAIVER) in advance or fill out the form your trip coordinator has at the put in. Pay $10 cash or pay by check payable to the ACA to the trip coordinator before you get on the water. Minor waivers are at: AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION, INC

Another option is to use the new ACA Online event waivers.  When doing the on-line waiver use the event name: Paddlefest.  Use the date: June 13, 2026.  You can sign an Event Waiver online using this link:  https://aca.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1370/home.  This wizard will have you create an account with the ACA without becoming a full-fledged ACA member.   This waiver will not collect the $10 fee in advance.  Take $10 cash (or a check to ACA) to the put in.  If you want to create an Event Waiver and pay the fee directly to the ACA, use this link:  https://aca.sport80.com/public/wizard/a/1371/home. Again, you will be creating an account with the ACA just for the purpose of signing and paying for an event waiver.  Warning: No refunds if you pay the ACA for the event waiver in advance even if the event is cancelled.   You should print of download on your phone your waiver receipt and bring it to the put in.

Help Needed

Leslie will need someone to help keep an eye on who shows up, gather waivers and insurance fees and such.  We also need helpers down at the water to supervise folks trying out boats that may be unfamiliar to them. We need folks on the water to keep track of paddlers and make sure all get back to the put in.

Safe Paddling Guidelines

Lake Chatfield has many power boats and waves can build up.  However, there are No Wake zones.  We will stay in the No Wake zones when possible and call this a flat-water event. Depending on water level, we usually can launch boats on the beach near Marina Point Group Shelter. The paddle plan is to head south to the No Wake Zone and toward the Gravel Pond and upstream the South Platte River until it is time to turn around.  Please do not paddle alone.  Form a pod and stay with your group. Parking can get crowded, so come early.  Chatfield day permits are $10, but your “Keep Colorado Wild” Pass will cover the fee.  https://cpw.state.co.us/keep-colorado-wild-pass

In order to maintain our liability insurance, it’s important that all members and guests read and follow our safe paddling guidelines. Here’s a link  https://rockymountaincanoeclub.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/RMCC-Boating-Requirements-and-Recommendations-2020.pdf
