Colorado River – Loma to Westwater
March 22-23, 2026
Trip Coordinator
Mat Bozek matbozekx@gmail.com
This will be a 2 day trip – Sunday 3/22/26 and Monday 3/23/26 – to try and avoid most of the heavy traffic on I-70. I did a 14 day forecast for GJ and it looks good – highs in the 70’s and lows in the 40’s I have booked Mee #4, so potential for hiking up the canyon.
No dogs, no little kids.
You can find lots of info – just google Loma to Westwater.

Note that this includes one potential CII rapid at the entry into Black Rocks. Helmets will be required. 25 miles in two days with one night camping on the river. This is generally a beginner friendly trip – outside of that one rapid.
Hazards include ice cold water (hypothermia). Come prepared with complete extra change of clothes. This will be an ACA insurance trip, so $10 per person for those who are not ACA members.
Safe Paddling
To keep our events both fun and safe for everyone, each participant needs to have the skills and the equipment appropriate to the waters and the weather. Each participant is the first judge of whether they have the skills and equipment necessary, but trip coordinators have the final say. Please read the RMCC Requirements and Recommendations for ACA-Sanctioned Events
ACA Insurance
This is a trip with ACA liability insurance. If you are a current ACA member, you are all set. Non ACA members need to purchase an “Event Membership” and pay the ACA’s $10 fee.
Paper event membership waivers are this trip coordinator’s preference. You can print (NEW ACA WAIVER) in advance or fill out the form your trip coordinator has at the put in. Pay $10 cash or pay by check payable to the ACA to the trip coordinator before you get on the water. Minor waivers are at: AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION, INC
Another option is to use the new ACA Online event waivers. After you have communicated with your trip coordinator, you can sign an Event Waiver online using this link: https://aca.sport80.com/
Utah Mussel-Aware
All boaters must complete the Utah 2026 Mussel-Aware Boater Program course. Print out two copies. Keep one in the vehicle and one in the boat – it is free and online – see link below.
