Flaming Gorge Reservoir 2024 Exploratory. Wednesday, July 17th thru Tuesday, July 23rd

July 17July 23

Flaming Gorge Reservoir 2024 Exploratory
Overview:   This is a flatwater trip to explore the nooks and crannies at Flaming Gorge.  We will be doing day trips only.  We may split into 2 groups; Gary will be in his sea kayak, Anne will be in an inflatable.

Time Frame:  Wednesday, July 17th thru Tuesday, July 23rd.

Fees:  Flaming Gorge Reservoir is a National Recreation Area.  The federal Senior Pass will cover the daily fees

Hazards:  Wind!  On previous outings, the wind is usually up by noon and often earlier.

Coordination:  Group meeting each evening at 7 PM to figure out who is going where each day, arrange car shuttles if needed.

Camping:  This is TBD.

In the past, we’ve always utilized primitive campsites (utilizing wag bags/poop tubes).  FYI, we have been able to drive my Subaru Forester to these sites but they are accessed by dirt roads;

We’d like to snag a primitive campsite near Buckboard Marina close to the boat ramp so the restroom there can be utilized.  Buckboard has a campground.  According to recreation.gov, the campground is open and sites can be reserved.  Non-electric sites are $25/night

If you are interested in joining this trip, please get in touch with us to discuss camping, as we will not be able to scout possibilities beforehand.

Food:  Individual, no potluck planned.

Drive Time:  7 or so hours from Longmont to the Buckboard Marina.

Regulations:  A Wyoming AIS sticker is required.  In addition, inspection is required at the Port-of-Entry on US-287 just south of Laramie.  There is an additional inspection station at the Anvil Draw access road for folks coming up from the Grand Junction area.

Water:  Water is available at Buckboard.

Gas:  Fill up in Green River before heading to Buckboard.

Groceries:  Smith’s Grocery in Green River is good.

ACA:  this will be an ACA-compliant trip.

A Trails Illustrated map for Flaming Gorge is a good reference.
