North Platte River, Wyoming, 6-Mile Gap to Treasure Island. June 13-15. Class II/II+
June 13, 2025 – June 15, 2025
Paddle in the Medicine Bow National Forest, Wyoming. Access from Laramie WY or Walden CO. Approximately a 3-4 hour drive from Golden.
Put-in at 6-Mile Gap Campground and River Access, about 4 miles north of the Colo-Wyo border. The put-in requires an about 100-yard carry downhill; no wheels allowed in Platte River Wilderness.
About 10 miles of Class II/II+ depending on the water level
First 10 miles is National Forest, the rest is a mix of BLM and private land. The National Forest is marked with blue and red diamond signs; land behind blue is public, land behind red is private.
Equipment required is floatation, PFD, throw bag, extra paddle, helmet, and appropriate cold-water protection such as splash wet/dry gear including dry or wet suits. Be prepared to swim. No cotton.
Note: The trip is a no-go if water level is below 600 cfs at the Colo-Wyo border gauge, North Platte River near Northgate, CO.
–River hazards are cold water exposure, swift current, many rocks, and sweepers
